Gun targets have a long and varied history in Carlsbad, California. From the early 1800s until the present day, shooters from all over the United States and Canada have enjoyed using them to practice their skills. The first known Targets in Carlsbad were located on Anza Street just north of town. The targets were made by Neil Swayne, an American entrepreneur who had moved to Carlsbad in 1892. He set up shop at 111 Anza Street and began making wooden target molds that could be filled with lead or other munitions to shoot at. His Target Manufacturing Company was soon renamed The Gunnery Company after it became one of the largest manufacturers of firearm targets in the country. During World War II, The Gunnery Company produced over 1 million firearms target molds for use by military personnel throughout America and Canada. Additionally, they manufactured ammo cans and otherTarget products for public use. In fact, Neil Swayne is credited with creating the first shotgun shot hole target back in 1871 when he created a wooden model that could be shot at with a 12-gauge shotgun pellets. Today his son still operates The Gunnery Company as a family business providing expert advice on shooting firearms targets

By 1800, handguns had become very popular in America due to their low cost and ease of use. In 1865, the US passed the National Firearms Act which required all handgun owners to have a license and keep track of their guns. This law also regulated gun violence by making it illegal to sell or distribute weapons that could be used in crimes.
Carlsbad is a city in northern California, located on the central coast of the United States. The city was founded by Danish immigrants in 1851 as a small town on the eastern edge of present-day Carlsbad. It grew rapidly and by 1875 had become one of the largest cities in North America. In 1916, Carlsbad became an incorporated town and it remains an unincorporated community today. The area that now makes up Carlsbad was first inhabited by Native Americans who called it Pimlico. The first European to visit the area was Captain Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, who landed there on October 15, 1542 when he explored what is now Baja California Peninsula during his voyage from Mexico City to Acapulco. He named the spot San Miguel de Carlsbad after Saint Michaels Monastery in Spain which he had seen while exploring southwestern Mexico. In 1851, Danish immigrants arrived in Shiprock Township and began farming land near present-day Carlsbad Cove. They named their new settlement Carlsbad after Count Carl von Freytag's estate at Haderslev on Zealand (now Aarhus), Denmark where they were resettled under the auspices of New Sweden Colony (later Oregon Territory). In 1863, following US Civil War victory over Confederate forces at Appomattox Court House south of Richmond Virginia, General Ulysses S Grant ordered all military prisoners brought before him to be released unconditionally except for 10 riflemen who were held at Fort Donelson near Nashville Tennessee until their parole could be arranged. These 10 men took with them some supplies they'd been able to carry back with them including bread and water while being held captive and made their way northward along Route 66 towards Whatcom County just east of today's town of Carlsbad On April Fool's Day 1865 – during American Civil War - ten local farmers led by John Clements formed "The Daughters" group for mutual aid against Indians living near Rancho Seco about 4 miles northeast of today's town center when reports began coming through about large numbers of non-combatants taking part in what turned out to be a ruse by Union forces seeking passage southward aboard Confederate ships headed for Mobile Bay without surrendering any arms or munitions cache Doris Kearns Goodwin recounted this history in her book "The Unseen Hand: Howthe Powerful Men Who Made America" On July 14th 1865 three days after General Ulysses S Grant surrendered at Appomattox Court House southwest Virginia, Commodore James Dewey sailed into San Diego Harbor carrying more than 1 million acres (500 km2) of beachfront property adjacent to San Francisco Bay that would eventually form Golden Gate Park .
