A post office called Nacogdoches was established in 1847, and growth continued with the arrival of settlers from Mexico, Englishmen, Irish Americans, Scandinavian immigrants, Italian Americans, Germans and Japanese Americans over time. By 1860 there were over 100 residents in what is now Carlsbad; by 1880 there were more than 1,000 people living here including 350 businesses with a payroll above $10 million annually! In 1898 when California became a state, Nacogdoches became part of Escondido which also included parts of Mission Valley (then known as El Cajon) today’s Interstate 5 corridor between San Diego and Riverside counties. In 1907 Escondido voted to become an independent city with its own council while Nacogdoches remained a part ofEscondido until 1959! On July 20th 1909 Mayor Manuel Gomez announced that Carlsbad would be granted water rights from Rancho Vista Reservoir making it possible to bring light industry into this undeveloped region near then-Gardner Airport! This initial burst of development led to increased traffic congestion on Main Street which first necessitated widening before finally constructed two high speed access roads parallel to each other just west centerfield off Old US 101 southward from where it crossed I-5 outsidepresent day Downtown Carlsbad! Work began on this projectenforcing strict daily work hours for locals beginning on October 17th 1912 using techniques still used today such as yellow caution tape around construction areas
