The use of tasers in Canyon Lake, California began on October 4, 1984 when the first shooting was reported. The OC Sheriff's Department used a Taser against an arrestee who had been resisting arrest. This event is commonly referred to as the "Taser Incident." Since then, the department has frequently utilized Tasers in incidents where there appears to be potential for injury or death. In one instance, a man was shot and killed after coming out of a bar with several friends. Another time, officers were called to respond to a disturbance at a house where residents had been using pepper spray as self-defense. When they arrived, they found three people who had gunshot wounds and one person who had been stabbed with a knife. After interviewing all involved parties, it was determined that all individuals were not being violent and no weapons were located on any of them. In another incident which took place just last year, an officer was responding to reports of domestic violence when he encountered an armed suspect inside a home. At this point in the altercation, the suspect pulled out his handgun and started firing shots at the officer while he wasaya running towards his family members inside the home. While still running away from danger, he collapsed and died from his injuries sustained during the shootout with police Officers. This is also considered by some experts as one of Valley County's most high-profile shootings involving an unarmed individual since tasers became available in California in 1985

The first public meeting about the creation of Canyon Lake was held on July 10, 1893 at which time it was decided that the park should be named after Mono County's most renowned waterfall - Canon Falls - since no other place had been mentioned as being potential for such a impressive natural asset. In 1906, when Laughlin Ranch owners donated 2 million acres (8 km2) including much of what is now Canyon Lake to the county for use as open space, another roundabout process began to create Parkland around it: Heber Valley Reserve became Parkland east of canyon; Glen Cove Reserve became Parkland west; and Blue Gap Reserve became Parkland north. The first European to visit this area was Father Francisco Xavier Cabrillo, who explored and charted the California coast in 1542. He named one of his rivers after Father Cabrillo's Native American guide, Juan Rodríguez de la Serna. After Father Cabrillo's death in 1542, his brother Diego López de Montalvo took over as governor of Alta California and began developing this region including Canyon Lake. In 1676, Captain John Smith discovered Gold at Mono Pass and started to explore what would become Yosemite National Park. As gold discovery increased throughout northwestern America, development around Canyon Lake began to pick up speed as people felt its importance for irrigation purposes as well as access to new hunting areas nearby such as Tuolumne Meadows and El Capitan Peak among others
Canyon Lake is located in the San Bernardino Mountains, about 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The water body was named by General George Armstrong Custer after his 1876 battle with the Sioux at Canyon Creek Ranch. The first European to visit and map it was Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portolà in 1769. By 1814, when Mexican soldiers invaded California, the area had been dubbed El Canyal because of its high hills and deep valleys. In 1851, pioneer John Sutter founded a ranch near present-day Cathedral City on what would become part of Calaveras County. In 1873, he sold his holdings to another settler, James Wickersham. On July 24 of that year, Wickersham donated 4square mile (12 km2) of land at Canyon Lake for a new town to be named after him – Park City. parkcity was incorporated on February 14th, 1875.
