Westvale grew rapidly and soon included shopping centers, schools and other businesses. By 1955 the company had developed 25 subdivisions with a total area of . Campbell, California is a small town in the Unincorporated County of Kern County, California. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. The townsite was first patented on October 10, 1859 by James H. Campbell and Wm. Fenton. It became a city on January 3, 1893 with a total population of 516. The name "Campbell" is derived from the Spanish word "campo," meaning field or tract of land. according to one source, the original inhabitants of this area were the Mono people who hunted and gathered food near what is now downtown Campbell. In 1834 Mexican traders arrived in what is now Campbell with herds of cattle and paid for goods with silver bars that they had brought back from Mexico City. They founded two small settlements here: La Jolla and Rancho San Diego de la Laguna (now part of downtown). In 1863 John Sutter discovered gold in nearby Isleta Valley and began mining there as well; he named it Sutter's Station after his friend Baron Sutter who had helped him find it many years earlier. By 1865 all production at Sutter's Station had ceased due to low prices for gold quality ore brought overland by Native Americans from Eastern California than could be produced closer to Sacramento in Northern California where supplies were more consistent year-round due to cooler weather and greater transportation distances between mines sites." He also added an unconfirmed claim on Mount Shasta which made him one of America's richest men overnight." In 1858 James H. Campbell bought 640 acres (248 hectares) east of present day downtown Campbell from José Joaquin Cisneros for $10 per acre ($255 per kilometer). The new town site would include three blocks long on a narrow strip of open ground bordered by watercourses running north-southwest and east-west across its center (the town would later grow around these waterways). Downtown business activities started immediately including the founding of the first schoolhouse which served students grades 1-6 in 1863; sawing logs for building purposes began shortly thereafter while sowing spring wheat near what is now Market Street would become an early local industry . The first post office opened its doors in 1865 under license from Governor Richard Molsworth; yet another early community endeavor was setting up an irrigation system using natural sources to irrigate crops near today's City Hall Building before officially becoming a city on January 3rd, 1893 when its population reached 516 residents spread across 12 blocks within 2 miles (3 km) radius surrounding Interstate 880/Upper Carson Road (~5% commuting distance)." Campbell is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 10,545 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Contra Costa County. The history of Campbell goes back to 1849 when it was founded as a small town by Mormon missionaries on the San Pablo River. In 1868, it became part of Alameda County and then Contra Costa County. The first post office in Campbell was established in 1870. Most of what is now Campbell was created during the 1890s when the area around it was annexed from Alameda County to create Contra Costa County. That annexation included most of what is now east downtown Campbell and much of southtown and eastside neighborhoods on both sides of Highway 101 between I-580 and Interstate 680 (now known as MacArthur Boulevard). The land that would become central Campbell was first home to some Native Americans before European settlers arrived in large numbers in the late 1800s for agriculture or ranching purposes. In 1906, voters added an annex for located east of I-680 within present day Berkeley proper - making Campbell one of only two cities located entirely within Berkeley's boundaries at that time (the other being Oakland). East Palo Alto also acquired annexations from El Sobrante and Menlo Park over time while they were still part of Alameda County; these annexation proceedings are not counted toward the total number of cities annexed into Contra Costa Countysite since those towns had already incorporated as separate municipalities by then. 1) Central Avenue: This block bounded by 3rd Street/Center Avenue north, 5th Street/Alameda Avenue south, 1st Street west (toward Livermore), 2nd Street east (toward Walnut Creek) remain unincorporated today but are heavily populated with commercial development due to their location near BART stations along Interstate 680 and access to major highways like I-580 and 101 which make them convenient for commuters commuting into San Francisco or Redwood City etc...restrictions have been placed on building further north since many businesses locate on this corridor away from potential neighborhood growthcallback &rew@northwestbayarea dot com
