Camarillo, California is a small town located in Ventura County, California. The population was 7,026 at the 2010 census. Camarillo is part of the Northridge, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Camarillo were Spanish missionaries in 1769. The name "Madera" was given by one of their number and means "humble wood." In 1824, Captain James Cook visited this area on his return from his third voyage around the world and named it after Mission Santa Clara de la Laguna (today's Cathedral City). A post office called Rancho Rinconada was established in 1848, and remained in operation until 1907. Rancho Rinconada was sold to Leland Stanford Sr. in 1903 for $5 million. Mr. Stanford built the University of California at Los Angeles on land purchased from Rancho Rinconada heirs in 1912. In 1915, during World War I, General John J Pershing ordered all American forces within easy striking distance of Mexico to enter into an agreement under which Mexican troops would disarm and leave the country; this order included Camarillo as well as many other towns near San Diego and Baja California Sur Peninsula where large numbers of Mexicans had gathered to fight against American forces on the side of President Woodrow Wilson's entry into World War I. The United States acquired full sovereignty over Mexico following its victory over Japan at Hiroshima onAugust 9th 1945; however, America did not relinquish its claim to portions of Baja California Sur Peninsula including Camarillo until 1959 when a treaty between America and Mexico changed that policy . Camarillo has always been a ville (town) with no city status according to Mexican law although it does have government services like police department and fire departments provided by municipalidad (municipality). In 2006 Mayor Ricardo Lara announced plans for annexation by Northridge which would give Camarillo city rights with all same regulations applied such as property taxes etc., but this proposal has yet to be approved by either county or state authorities

However, over time, through hard work and determination, the town began to prosper. In 1886, Camarillo became part of Los Angeles County when it was organized as one unit out of dozens of townships that made up what is now Orange County. This gave Camarillo more representation in county government than many other villages and towns on the coast. During World War II, much effort went into creating an air base at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park so that Allied forces could use it for training during the war. The town built two airstrips which play an important role in military history today; one lies near downtown and is used for general aviation purposes while another is located about 10 miles west of town at Anza-Borrego National Monument. Despite its challenges throughout history,Camarillo has continued to grow steadily over the decades despite periodic economic downturns caused by drought or other factors. Today, Camarilli comprises mainly whitecollar jobs but also some agriculture and manufacturing based businesses such as seafood restaurants or agricultural products wholesalers. Despite this growth however there are still pockets where poverty remains entrenched amongst some minority groups including American Indian people who have long suffered from discrimination both federally and locally
