Over time other entrepreneurs followed suit: Don Manuel Antonio Carrasco got involved in smuggling goods between Southern California and Mexico during the early 1800s; Fernando de la Vega ran a cattle ranch that contributed much to local economy; and Jesús Cisneros took control of a water rights claim southeast of Lamontville in 1892 that became one of Camarillo's most important landmarks. The establishment of schools and churches soon followed as did businesses such as saddlers, harnessers and brewers who made products like beer and vinegar in camarilloscustom buildings known as chapels or synagogues (later mosques). By 1910 there were more than 200 businesses operating within CAMARILLO’S 1-square-mile (2-km²) downtown core including banks, factories, warehouses/marinas/, mills/papermaking plants/dairies/, restaurants/bars/, medical care facilities/hospitals/, stores/churches/, transportation services (labor yards), mining operations (including deposits for both gold and silver), citrus fruit production (the industry began around 1886 with trees being brought down from Monterey Peninsula), agricultural production such as haymaking orchards or cotton farming etc., as well as numerous residences subdivided onto parcels containing 6000 sq ft (.243 hectare) each by developers seeking easy access to land for housing development developments while also enjoying easygoing lifestyle amenities typical in those days such as streetcar service running through residential neighborhoods providing easy access to shopping malls located next door without having to go farfetched distances!

The city has a population of about 60,000 people who live primarily in the downtown core along State Street between First Street and Donnybrook Boulevard. Other large areas include the suburbs of Santa Paula to the north and Carpinteria to the south.
