On July 5th, 1851 local citizens met at Avila Park to begin planning what would become known as "the town site" for what would later becomeCamarillo . There were no physical boundaries between what became Eastridge Ranch and present day Camarillo until February 15th 1861 when voters approved annexation by neighboring Simi Valley . On April 30th 1861 voters also passed an ordinance authorizing incorporation which created both official municipal governments for both townships within Ventura County without any vote by residents living within each township themselves (although they did have voting power). Today there are three buildings still standing from this time period - Avila Park Hall now used as an office complex by City Manager Steve Buscaglia; First Presbyterian Church built circa 1875; and Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico Churches built from 1865-1867 after Mexican Americans joined forces with Italian Catholics in support of American independence under General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna throughout much of this decade

What is now Camarillo, California was first settled by the Tongva people in 1849. The town of Camarillo was founded on November 11, 1850 by Captain John Sutter and his team of pioneers who crossed the Bay Area from Northern California to claim Rancho La Brea. In 1861, following the Mexican-American War, Mexico ceded control of California to the United States and Camarillo became part of the newly created Riverside County. Following World War II, Camarillo experienced rapid growth as a result of its location at the crossroads of three major highways. In 1957, Camarillo became an incorporated city and has since been one of Southern California's most rapidly growing communities. Today,Camarillo is known for its beautiful natural scenery as well as its thriving downtown commercial district which includes many famous institutions such as UC Berkeley and several professional sports teams.
The Camarillo area was first settled by the Native Americans in the late 18th century. The first European to explore and map the area was Juan Bautista de Anza, who named it Rancho San Marcos after his father, who also called it Rancho Santa Margarita. In 1859, a group of Spanish colonists arrived in what is now Camarillo and founded the town of San Marcos. In 1865, the California legislature passed an act that granted land to Josefina Chamorro for her community at present-day Camarillo. The population of Camarillo grew rapidly from its initial 10 residents in 1866 to over 100 by 1870. By 1888, there were more than 350 people living in Camarillo.
