Today CAMARILLO still gets its power from PG&E's old plant which is located just outside of town on FM 1716 east of US 101 .

The city of Camarillo, California was founded on December 12, 1853 by Captain John C. Fremont and Lt. James H. McDonnell. The town was initially named Fremont but it was changed to Camarillo in honor of State Senator William Fenton who had recommended the name change. The town's first post office opened in 1854 and its first store was built in 1856. In 1863, the city annexed the village of La Brea which had been created by merger of two other villages, Pagosa Springs and Crescent City. On December 11th, 1865, the City of Camarillo annexes the unincorporated community of Lompoc which had been established a year earlier by local citizens under the name "Lompoc". In 1964, Camarillo became an incorporated city with a population of 507 residents and on November 6th that year it adopted its current name - "Camarillo" - after Governor Ronald Reagan who approved the change during a visit to California that week. The original settlement around Mission San Gabriel de Arcángel (the current downtown) began as Spanish mission land grant given to Mission Santa Cruz de la Laguna by Bishop Carlos Manuel Miranda on October 17th, 1769. After Mexican independence from Spain in1821 and American annexation of California in 1848, missions were secularized and their lands became part of various ranchos granted to Angeles County farmers during Rancho Buena Ventura period (1846-1859). On February 15th 1870 Campo del Norte springs up near what is now downtown Camarillo along Veterans Boulevard; this site would later become home to Ralston Purinton's meatpacking plant across LaBrea Avenue from today’s Safeway Center development nestled between Interstate 5 southbound lanes at Exposition Park Drive eastward into downtown Monterey County just beyond what are now several blocks west of Veteran Boulevard at present day First Street/Veterans Boulevard intersection northward into today’s Little Tokyo neighborhood eastward from I-5 approximately one mile northeast from where today’s Ralston Purinton’s plant stands upon creek bed following pre-existing historic route
