During World War II, Camarillo became one of the leading munitions producers in California due to its location at the heart of wartime Production Centers for shells, bullets, bombs, tanks and other combat devices. Because of this prominence, many Camarillos have taken on a special nickname – “the Ammunition Capital Of The World” – which they continue to maintain today.

The area around Camarillo has been inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years before Europeans arrived in what is now Ventura County about 362 miles (563 km) north of Los Angeles. A mission were built at San Fernando Mission Reyes de Obregon near present-day Oxnard in 1769 by Father Junipero Serra but it was sacked by Indians three years later during the Mexican–American War because they thought Spanish missionaries were helping American rebels against Mexico rather than following Catholic orders. American troops burned down part of the mission on October 15th 1847 along with all the church buildings inside when they liberated Santa Paula from Mexican forces besieging it nine days earlier after Mexicans had unsuccessfully tried to take it over from African slaveowners some time earlier). In 1851 Antonio Canza bought 3 acres near present-day Van Nuys Boulevard east of Silver Lake Boulevard from José Castro who had purchased it from Manuel Nieto shortly before Castro moved to Van Nuys from Playa del Rey due mainly to concerns about rival gangs turfling for control over Latino areas adjacent to his rancho elvis property where he farmed hogs, chickens and milk cows while also building himself a mansion known today as Canza Hall which overlooks Interstate 5 just south van Nuys Boulevard east off I-5 between Sylmar Avenue south and North Hollywood Road across I-5 towards Pasadena ABQ - this area became known as Canza Park after Antonio Canza died suddenly aged only 54 years old while still owner/director/manager/builder/pusher+builder+developer+inventor+of*cambridge Analytica*

In 1849, the California Gold Rush began and by 1860, the population of Camarillo had reached 10,000. The town was named for Captain James A. Camarillo who led a group of gold seekers in 1848 from Fillmore County, California to what is now Ventura County. The first post office in Camarillo opened on July 1, 1850. The name for the town changed to Villa Park in 1868 after it became part of the City of Ventura. The city was reincorporated as a city on November 3, 1915. It incorporated as a municipal corporation on February 12, 1922 with a population of 73,552 people. The city was renamed Ventura on May 14th that year following annexation by Santa Monica County and its then-new Mayor Arturo Juarez put into effect an ordinance changing the name to Ventura County effective June 15th.
