Smith set out from his home in La Puente with three horses and a wagon to establish what would eventually become California City. In 1906, when citrus crops became successful hereabouts,Californians began referring to their largely rural outpost as “The Citrus Capital of America” because of its pivotal role in this industry during those early days when citrus was still an embryonic crop grown only by hand or machine. In 1942 Californian pioneer Will Rogers called Califony “a little tiny town near Los Angeles but so big you couldn’t see it if you looked straight down at it from space” (Rogers). By then however much had changed for Californy since Rogers made his remarks more than 50 years earlier; growth rate for business activity here had tripled since he last visited (UCLA Division of Historical Resources). Today CA city is considered one of Southern Riverside’s wealthiest communities with high-end businesses including law firms, real estate companies and other professional sectors which have drawn residents from throughout Northern Riverside subdivision – making CA city one major cultural center for all these diverse constituencies Today there are nearly 2,000 residents living withincity limits while another thousand or so visit each month for events hosted by various civic organizations such as chamber music concerts at The Music Hall Theatre & Banquet Facility or art shows at local galleries As downtown continues to grow increasingly vibrant with new restaurants, bars and shops popping up like mushrooms every few months things are bound to keep getting better until they reach stratospheric levels!

It became an important commercial center with its location at the junction of two major lines of railroad. The city also developed a strong military presence due to its location at San Gabriel Valley exit 2 on Interstate 5. In 1942, during World War II, California City served as an ammunition storage depot for the nearby San Bernardino County Ammunition Storage Facility.
