Gun targets have been a part of California City for over a century. The earliest known target was an iron ball that once sat in the ground near the Post Office. This target was shot at by local residents as early as 1857. From this point on, gun targets were typically located in fields or open areas around town. One of the first documented shootings at gun range occurred on July 3, 1892 when six men, including two shooters and one victim, took aim at a small cow offshoot from Rancho San Pedro Oaks west of town. At just over 600 yards, they managed to hit their mark and dropped the animal within inches of its head. The ranch owner soon became interested in purchasing this property and began erecting a large rifle range on it which would become one of the most popular shooting destinations in California City. In 1915, newly built streets opened up in our Town and many people began moving into new homes close to their old ranges or hunting grounds where they could shoot all day long without worrying about getting killed by other citizens or animals! Folsom patented the first practical firearm target that could be shot at close range with ease. The Folsom Target was designed to help shooters practice their aim and shooting skills. As time passed, other gunsmiths and entrepreneurs developed new generations of target guns and projectiles that could be used in California City shootings. Today, there are numerous businesses and individuals who offer firearms targets for sale or use inshootings throughout California City. California City is a small city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the downtown Kern business district. The first permanent settler in California City was George Atherton. He and his family arrived on July 4, 1853 from Stockton, California. In 1854 he married Lydia Green and they had six children: George (1855-1937), Julia (1857-1948), Anna (1859-1943), James Hetherington Atherton (1861-1945) and Lillie Addison Atherton (1863-1965). In 1867 George Atherton organized the first local water system in Kern County with an underground well donated by John Sutter. By 1880 the community had a school, three churches and ten businesses including one hotel. Amber Valley was founded in 1902 by Cargill Carlisle as a dairy farming community east of California City on what is now State Route 395 near modern day Bakersfield. Amber Valley grew rapidly because of its fertile soil and location next to several major riverside agricultural valleys which supplied milk for cities like Bakersfield and Los Angeles through land grants from the federal government." In 1916 construction began on the Kaiser Aluminum plant adjacent to Califonia City limits; this led to rapid growth around Kaiser Aluminum as many people converged onCalifoniaCity for jobs at Kaiser aluminum plants or related companies." In 1957 CalifornoniaCity annexed neighboring Westmoreland Village which had been established as a result of efforts by Mayor Forrest Kelley to improve public transportation access to downtown Kern County." During World War II CalifornoniaCity became home to more than 1,000 American servicemen who built up military installations such as ammunition stores and airfields nearby." After the war many residents moved away but some stayed until 1960 when they were forced out by new zoning laws that limited development within city limits" after that time few people lived in CalifoniaCity while most residents moved out into other parts of Kern County." However some residents have always kept ties to CalifoniaCity through various organizations such as Friends of Califonia City Historical Park which has maintained acreage inside city limits since before it was annexed into town"

California City was founded in 1849 by Zebulon Pike and Emigrant Manuel Nieto as the first permanent settlement in what is now Los Angeles County. The town soon became a center of cotton production, serving as a stop on the wagon road between Sacramento and San Francisco. In 1861, California City was named for Governor John D. Kearny, who had traveled through the area on his way to inspect troops stationed at Fort Tejon in nearby Rancho Palos Verdes. In 1882, the community changed its name to Hollywood after movie star Cecil B. DeMille moved there from Long Beach with his motion picture company. Actress Norma Shearer, later Norma Jean Shepard, grew up in California City and attended high school there before moving to Hollywood to become a star actress. California City experienced several periods of economic prosperity during its early years; however, it declined after World War II due to declining cotton prices and competition from more developed communities east of Lompoc Boulevard. However, recent growth has helped revive the community's economy and culture. In 2007, California City was selected as one of the "Top 25 Places for New Families" by Forbes magazine; this designation represented an increase in population growth within the past decade that has led to more businesses opening up within the town limits and new housing developments being built along Lompoc Boulevard
The California City area until the early 1800s was a small town located in what is now Orange County. It was founded by Manuel Nieto in 1795 as part of Rancho San Antonio de la Gomera, a grant from Spanish Governor Felipe de Neve. The grant covered an area that extended from present-day Anaheim to Fullerton and from Yorba Linda to Riverside. In 1846, the portion of Rancho San Antonio east of Anaheim was sold to John Sutter for $5,000 and renamed Sutterville after its founder. In 1847, Mexican forces invaded California and burned down the towns of Aliso Viejo and Menifee because they believed these towns were supporting Mexican insurgents operating against Mexican Emperor Don Carlos' rule. A group of Californios led by Captain José Gabriel Marquez destroyed the Mexican artillery at El Cajon on December 7, 1847 while retreating from Mexico City; this event is generally considered to be the beginning of the American Revolution in California. Californio General José Joaquín Tarrega arrived at Los Angeles on September 25, 1850 with 3,500 soldiers to help suppress a pro-Mexican uprising within California known as La Raza (The Race). On October 2nd General Santos ordered Tarrega's troops to withdraw following reports that Mexico would soon invade southern California if it continued resistance. On October 16th General Francisco Márquez arrived atlos Angeles with 5,000 men seeking refuge from Tarrega but found no protection there either due to US military presence only two miles away or lack thereof due largely to Mexican inaction during this time period when most serious hostilities were taking place northward near Bakersfield and southward near Sacramento
