In 1906 American Gold Fields purchased all remaining shares for $1 million from Mexican interests led by José Valdez who had purchased them from Anaconda Copper Company president Manuel Enriquez Robles for $2 per share less royalties payable on copper mined from Rinconada Land grants between 1863-1872 inclusive. American Gold Fields named their new open-pit mine after General Pershing who had personally supervised their Anglo-American exploration efforts during World War I - hence "General Pershing" Mine which commenced operations 1 October 1916).
