The first gun hammer designed in Calexico, California was the Colt Hammer. It was a striker-fired percussion revolver that used a hammock style cocking handle to cock the hammer. The hammer was pushed back and forward with the hand until it clicked into place, and then pulled back to firing position by means of a pinched nerve behind the hammer.

Calexico is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 117,711 at the 2010 census. The name "Calexico" comes from two Mexican words: cálexi (a type of flour) and alcalá (salt). The first written evidence of habitation in what is now Calexico dates back to the time of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo when he landed there on July 24, 1542. In 1846, Californios under General Antonio López de Santa Anna forced Mexico's withdrawal from California and founded Rancho Cañon de Santiago de Padua near present-day Calexico with land grants from Spain. At first small businesses were started hereabouts by farmers such as Manuelito García who raised chickens for their eggs or fowl for their meat; later more substantial concerns cropped up with fruit trees, cattle ranching, irrigated agriculture and whaling until about 1880 when real estate values began to escalate rapidly due largely to proximity to Los Angeles across the river. Water availability also became an important factor as development increased pressure on water resources; however currently groundwater supplies are adequate for residential purposes only although agricultural production continues unabated although irrigation has been discontinued since 2007 due to dwindling water resources). This period marked a turning point for Calexico as industries began moving into town rather than abandoning it during times of drought or other economic difficulties; this did not stop however until about 1920 when automobile production effectively took over most industrial activity leaving little opportunity for new businesses which led to slowly declining population densities throughout much of this era culminating in current levels today despite continued extenuating circumstances including increasing traffic congestion caused by rapid growth in nearby downtown LA plus recent efforts at redevelopment/encouragement by city leaders). These developments are located along Mesa Street between I-5 and Interstate 805 where much heavy industry once thrived including aerospace related firms such as Lockheed Martin & Boeing Light Aircraft Industries Inc., Qualcomm Snapdragon Semiconductor Manufacturing Company ltd., Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co., Oracle Corporation ltd., ATK Missile Systems USA Inc., Mellanox Technologies Corp.) among others before retiring or moving away following various stages of decline including bankruptcycies etc.; now these firms are scattered among numerous parks and open spaces within minutes’ walk thereof rather than sitting 1600+ feet above ground level surrounded by noisy warehouses etc.). The city of Calexico was founded on February 14, 1853, by the brothers James and George Caley. The town was named after Spanish explorer Francisco Xavier Menéndez de Avila. It was located near the present-day Mexican state of Baja California. In 1857, the United StatesArmy established a military post in the area to prevent Mexico from gaining control of what is now Baja California. The post remained in operation until 1908. In 1863, Native Americans killed 15 men and five women at Rancho San Antonio east of Calexico for raiding horses in that area. In 1864, during the American Civil War, Confederate General John Sibley attacked Fort Tejon south of Calexico with 1,200 soldiers and artillerymen under his command. The attack failed due to Mexican resistance and Sibley withdrew his forces before reaching the fortifications. In 1865, following completion of the Transcontinental Railroad across America, travelers traveling between Sacramento and El Paso passed through Calexico on their way to or from those cities. Calexico began to grow rapidly as a result of its location adjacent to two major trade routes - one linking Northern Mexico with Southern California; and another connecting Los Angeles withijuana and other parts of Baja California Peninsula. Businesses started up immediately to capitalize on this new development: hotels were built, businesses were opened up to serve visitors (the first being a general store), sawmills were erected for lumber production (the mills soon became world-renowned), cattle ranches flourished (rapidsly expanding into today’s Camino Viejo neighborhood), water supplies were developed for irrigation purposes (rivers providing most drinking water until well into the 20th century) – all while citizens constructed beautiful residences such as Queen Anne style brick buildings dotting nearly every block in town center dating back to before incorporation as a municipality in 1913/14!
