Calabasas, California is a small city located in the southern most corner of Los Angeles County. The population was estimated to be over 100,000 people as of the 2010 census. The area that would become Calabasas was first inhabited by the Toltec culture who built their villages on hills overlooking the present day town. The area would be under Spanish rule for many years before becoming part of Mexico in 1848. After Mexican independence, California was divided into several provinces with Calabasas being one of them. In 1881, the region became part of Davis Valley when it was detached from Los Angeles County. When Southern California Edison started construction on their new power plant in 1922, they used land included in what is now Calabasa as well as areas nearpresent day Ventura and Simi Hills for their site. Construction began onsite in 1923 and finished two years later. At first it wasn't clear how much electricity the new 3 kilowatt station would produce but after it opened some residents found out that they were getting more than they were paying for from the previous generating stations in downtown Los Angeles. This led to demand for more power which lead to Edison building an enlarged station which continued operating until 1957 when it shut down due to vandalism by employees

Calabasas, California is a city located in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California. The population was 103,827 as of the 2010 census. Calabasas is located on the eastern edge of the Central Valley and was founded by prospectors in 1867. The name "Calabasas" means “humble valley” in the Miwok language. The first permanent settler in Calabasas was Captain John Sutter who explored and surveyed what is now known as Southern California for Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna during his 1846-48 expedition to conquer Mission San Gabriel Arcángel and control all southern California. When Father José Altarza arrived at Rancho Laguna Seca near present day Upland Lake on October 24, 1874, he named it after St. Catherine's Monastery in Russia because that is where he had been sent to find land for himself and his friars under then-Governor Manuel Micheltorena. At that time there were only 32 families living in Calabasas when it became a town on February 26, 1875 by an act of the State Legislature with site selection and building started immediately by Elisha Andrews & Co., two brothers who were also partners with Elisha Andrews Sr., one brother-in-law (Juan Pablo Montoya) During World War II much of what is now Calabasa was part of Camp Pendleton which served as a Naval Air Station from 1941 to 1945 including bombing raids against Japanese targets such as Tokyo; aircraft carrier exercises off Long Beach; training ship USS Hornet operations off Catalina Island; Harbor Defense Command station at Seal Beach; ammunition storage facility at Carlsbad Caverns etc.; many Marine barracks including Camp Hansen etc.; large amounts of explosives1 As early as 1942 many people knew about atomic bombs because they had seen photos or heard about them from newsreels before their use becameofficial2 In fact some residents even helped build bomb dumps3 Some locals still remember their days spent working around these facilities today4 Today most people living within easy reach commute into Los Angeles County each day for work or school but there are still some rural areas which are difficult to get to5 Please see: "History Of And Around Calabasa" below for more information In 1915 John Diller founded Diller Drug Company here5 In 1945 Northrop Aircraft Corporation moved its main headquarters from Glendale Heights, Illinois to Sylmar which makes it one of just five cities worldwide with both state capitals without a metropolitan area6 That same year Sylvester Stallone moved his family herefrom Scottsdale Arizona7 A few years later Hollywood producer Dino De Laurentiis opened De Laurentiis Productions here too8 Along with other industry heavyweights such as Mel Brooks9 various singers10 like Freddy Mercury11 Roy Orbison12like 50 Cent13and Ice Cube14the city has since become home to numerous prominent professionals including several members of Congress15including Darrell Issa16and Barbara Boxer17among others18 Notwithstanding recent gentrification efforts20historic sites like Goodyear Tire & Rubber Plantation21Chamberlain Stadium22Dollar Tree23and Donnybrook Park24 remain popular tourist destinations while new neighborhoods have sprung up downtown such as Mayfair25 Pacific Coast Highway26 and Granada Hills27
Calabasas was founded in 1847 by the citizens of the town of Vail on the east bank of the San Joaquin River. The region around Calabasas was originally a part of what is now known as Kern County. The first post office in Calabasas was established in 1851, and the first school was built in 1853. In 1861, CalabasAS saw its first census and it became an incorporated city. By 1865, there were over 100 dwellings in Calabasasa
