In 1892, the original owners of theCalabasiachannel company died; however, their successors continued operations until 1921. During World War II, members of the United States military used part ofthe Calabasas Canal System as an airfields in Southern California. The canal system was also instrumental in helping Valley Cities become self-sufficient during that time period by providing transportation and irrigation access essential for agriculture. Today, portions ofthe CalabasaCanal System are still in use today as transportation routes and water supplies for local communities across Southern California

At that time, Rancho Laguna Seca was adjacent to present-day Calabasas. In 1847, John Sutter founded Sutter's Mill on San Fernando Creek near modern-day Calabasas. By 1850s, Sutter's Mill had become one of largest flour mills in California with more than 1 million bushels processed each year; it closed in 1874. In 1881–82 during World War I munitions production at Sutter's mill led to creation of Northrop Aircraft Company headquarters complex which still stands across from town center today (Granada Hills). Although no evidence suggests that either side fired any rounds during World War II - both countries were allies throughout the entire conflict - local residents are often quoted as saying that they would have known if something were amiss had there been any fighting going on around them; however this has never been substantiated by hard evidence or historical records
