Bullets have been around for centuries, and in California they are known as "gun bullets." Bullet history in Calabasas began with the first shots ever fired from a cannon in 1846. The gun that fired those first shots was called the "Munroe" and it was built by Captain John Munroe of the Excelsior Volunteers at Stockton, California. It had an 8-pounder barrel and was used to fire shot out of a ship into San Francisco Bay. The captain's daughter, Justine, who lived on Battery Street near Mission Dolores during this time, remembers her father firing the first shots from the gun on November 1st of 1846. The origins of handguns date back to about 1795 when Spanish soldiers discovered firearms which they soon adopted as their own personal weapons. Firearms were not available to civilians until after Mexican independence in 1821 when Mexico ceded its territory east of Sacramento to the United States. This left Californians with only shotguns and rifles as their primary firearms. Shotguns were very short-lived however, because within two years pistols had replaced shotguns as the most popular choice for shooting game such as deer or quail. In 1851 Captain John Munroe returned to Stockton with his new cannon and began firing balls at targets off Point Reyes lighthouse which is now part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area

Calabasas is a city in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 25,695 as of the 2010 census. Calabasas is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. It is located on the eastern edge of the Santa Monica Mountains and bordered by Oxnard to the north and east, Malibu to the west and Glendale to the south. The community began as a small agricultural town named Westville on Rancho Cucamonga's (now Simi Valley) western border in 1878. The name was changed from Westville to Calabasas in 1903 when it became incorporated as a city. In 1924, its citizens approved annexation by Pasadena; Pasadena did not ratify annexation until 1957. The first post office at Calabasas was established in 1879, and served only residents of Westville Township. The present post office building was built in 1907 and remains one of the original downtown buildings in Ventura County. During World War II, many American soldiers were stationed at Camp Pendleton on nearby beaches while their units fought overseas; some left behind families who moved into "new" homes that had been constructed for military personnel during their absence. One such home was originally built for Army Sgt.(jg.) John Saylor Jr., his wife Lillian (née Hickey), their son John Saylor III (bobcat), daughter-in-law Judy Jorgensen (senior citizen), grandson Brian Jorgensen (junior citizen) and granddaughter Lori Jorgensen were all born within a few miles of each other at 12794 Topanga Canyon Boulevard while they lived temporarily with her parents after her father's discharge from service on December 17th 1946; they later moved back into their mother's home which they purchased on November 15th 1948 after her husband obtained his commission as an ensign with Ulysses S LCI(L). After living there for more than 50 years it passed down through several generations until it finally sold to developer Harry Cohn in 1987 who donated it to local organizations including The Friends Committee on Civil Rights which operates it today asrazor Hills Park - one of Southern California's oldest parks
Calabasas was first settled in 1853, and became a town in 1875. The post office was established in 1876, and the first store opened in 1881. The town grew rapidly during the early years of its existence, and by 1915 it had a population of over 1,500 people. It was annexed by Los Angeles in 1923.
