The first Europeans to penetrate what is now Contra Costa County were Spanish missionaries in 1769 who named it Rancho de las Pulgas (Pulgas Ranch). The land was given to Mission San Francisco de Asís byPerfecto Cisneros y Ortega on December 16, 1821 under Mexican possession following Mexico's victory over Great Britain at the Battle of Palo Alto. The mission was abandoned in 1836 when Alta California became part of Mexico and most of the lands comprising modern-day Contra Costa County were acquired by Mexico through Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo. In 1881, Santa Clara Valley Railroad operative John Dutton surveyed a townsite on what would become Burlingame Beach at Point Reyes National Seashore for his proposed city he called "Duttonville". A group of businessmen from Stockton purchased Duttonville from Dutton in 1886 and developed it as a seaside resort community with narrow streets and high-rise buildings typical of coastal towns during that time. In 1915, construction began on Utopia beach Amherst which blended Hawaiian architecture with English Tudor styles; this project led to the introduction of new American standards into international resorts such as Utopia beach By 1933 Burlingame had lost its status as a seaside resort town and reverted back to an agricultural community with citrus productions accounting for most economic activity until after World War II when growth resumed in light industry based on dry dock facilities established along Monterey Bay. After years of decline due mostly to lack of investment including several bankruptcies throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s Burlingame regained some degree of success starting with Measure B - approved by voters - which provided $5 million in state funding for development within 1½ miles (2 km) of downtown while also increasing local funding from sales taxes collected within that radius This package included plans for a mixed income housing development known as Dream House which opened its doors to residents in fall 2006; it has since been expanded into multiple units including single family homes developments targeting young professionals Also significant has been redevelopment around Highway 101 bypassing downtown providing open space inside/outside shopping malls Today Burlingame continues its recovery story by becoming home to technology companies such as Apple Inc., Google parent company Alphabet Inc., Facebook Inc., TwitterInc., Salesforce CRM Solutions LLP and Huawei Technologies Co Ltd among others

Burlingame is a small town located in San Mateo County, California. It was founded in 1868 by Commodore John C. Burlingame and his wife, Eliza Jane Childs. The city was incorporated in 1914. The population was 24,653 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Burlingame were the Spanish missionaries who founded Mission San Francisco de Asís on November 29, 1778. In 1868 Commodore John C. Burlingame and his wife Eliza Jane Childs purchased Rancho Rinconada from José Joaquín de Urquiza y Costilla for $8,000 pursuant to a deed of sale dated October 20, 1867. They named their new rancho after General José Joaquín Carrillo y Pavón whose victory at Buenavista over Californios on February 14, 1817 had ended much Mexican resistance against US colonization of California. The original grantees of Rancho Rinconada were Juan Bautista Alvarado (the father of missions Santa Clara and San Francisco), Narciso Reygadas (owner of part of East Bay City), Manuel Nieto (a cattle rancher), Pedro Nunes (a farmer and surveyor) and Antonio Pacheco (an American). By December 1870 only Pacheco remained with the group as he homesteaded near present-day Pinole Road northeast of town on an area which later became part of Menlo Park.. The Earls Court Hotel opened its doors in 1912 as one of the most popular hotels in Northern California due to its central location within easy walking distance of most shopping areas and other important cultural attractions such as the University ofCalifornia at Berkeley campus and Golden Gate Bridge. During World War II it served as Headquarters for United States Military Forces Pacific Area until 1942 when it reverted back to civilian control under Navy jurisdiction following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor which destroyed U2 spy planes commanded by Lt Col John F Kennedy At 4:15 PM PDT Wednesday May 8th 1945 - just shyof six years prior - USS Constitution docked at Pier 78A adjacent to Naval Air Station Point Reyes National Seashore during her maiden voyage from Oakland International Airport Naval Air Station Point Reyes National Seashore History Museum
Burlingame was first settled in 1849 by Judge George Burlingame and his wife, Lydia. The town was developed as a trading post on the southern route between San Francisco and Sacramento.
