Burlingame Rifle & Pistol Club was organized in 1892. It is the oldest rifle and pistol club west of the Rocky Mountains. The first pistols were acquired by the club in 1897. The club moved to its current home in Burlingame in 1907.
Burlingame is a small town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 1,533 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. It is located on the eastern edge of Burlingame Peninsula and nestles between two mountain ranges: the Diablo Range to the north and Mount Tamalpais to the south. The first Europeans to visit what is now Burlingame were Spanish missionaries who founded Mission Santa Clara de Asís in 1795. In 1812, Captain John Brougham discovered land that would become Burlingame Peninsula when he sailed through San Pablo Bay on his way from Alameda to Monterey. The peninsula was named for Lieutenant Colonel James Leland Burritt, an American Revolutionary War officer and member of Commodore John Tilton's squadron that explored California in 1779–80. Burritt had been sent by King George III as a colonel with a search for new sources of wine after his failed attempt to buy land from Juan Rodríguez at Chaviore (near Humboldt Bay). The name "Burlingame" probably originated with this discovery since it appears three times on early manifestions of missions in Northern California: Nov 25 & Dec 3rd 1800 by Father José Joaquin Elizalde; May 10th 1821 by José María Narváez; July 12th 1827 by Gaspar de Portolà during his mission under Governor Manuel Miranda y Valdés. In 1846, General Vallejo awarded Donation Land Act which granted large areas of present-day Contra Costa County to various groups such as Californios ( newcomers ) and Anglo-Saxons ( settlers ). In 1850, William Randolph Hearst purchased Rancho Rinconada which included most of what is now Burlingame Peninsula including parts of today's towns of Hercules and Monte Sereno while still residing in Mexico City where he had been living since his divorce from Aurelia Vanderbilt Hearst . Hearst had hoped to erect a major new city nearsheathing water resources but changed his mind after learning about how difficult it would be build without public funding . He returned to America in 1888 and died there two years later. His health prevented him from continuing development work so much like many other tycoons before him , leaving behind a vast rancho stretching across much of northern California . When World War II began , most military activity took place along Sacramentans River east side up river from here including bombing raids over Berkeley while townspeople sheltered inside their homes ..... more later

The town was founded in 1887 by workers on a rancho that later became part of Rancho Santa Clara. The name “Burlingame” was derived from the Spanish word búrallar (meaning to build). The town's first store opened in 1888 and the first post office was established in 1890. By 1902, Burlingame had a school and two churches. After World War I, the military moved families to Burlingame from nearby Stockton and Modesto because of its proximity to war-time production plants. In 1925, a new shopping center was built on Main Street and it quickly became one of the most popular destinations for locals and visitors alike. In 1987, after years of discussion by city officials and citizens, Burlingame voters passed an ordinance authorizing cityhood. On December 3rd of that year, City Council voted 5-0 to become an incorporated municipality with its own government & budgeting procedures as well as its own police department & fire department! Today’sBurlingame is a thriving community with strong ties to both local & national businesses; it has seen recent growth in both small businesses (& boutiques) and larger corporations like Googleplex & Applebees – all while maintaining its Town Hall location adjacent to downtown! Burlingame residents are proud advocates for their community – they work hard every day making sure their town remains vibrant & inclusive despite continued economic challenges faced by many other communities around us!
Burlingame was founded by Captain John Burlingame on November 5, 1829 as a small settlement on the San Francisco Peninsula. The first permanent settler in what is now Burlingame was George Beale. Captain Burlingame purchased the land from the Rancho Humboldt grantees in 1831. In 1840, Captain John Burlingame built his home and sawmill on the present-day site of his namesake town.
