It is located on the eastern edge of downtown Los Angeles and is bordered by Encino to the south, Carson City to the east, North Hollywood to the north, and West Hollywood to the west. The first Europeans who arrived in what is now Burbank were Spanish Missionarios. The area was part of Rancho Santa Ana de la Alameda de las Pulgas (now Crescent Heights) until 1835 when it became part of Rancho Verde. From 1885-1890, Burbank was a town governed by a board of supervisors with one representative from each ward. In 1912 Burbank became an incorporated city under state law and voters approved Proposition 8 which repealed probate rights for all towns within Los Angeles County except Beverly Hills and Culver City. In 1957 Burbank annexed parts of neighbouring Glencoe Village which had been populated since 1916 by Japanese Americans who had been forced into internment during World War II as part of US Policy known as "Americalisation". The annexation created new neighbourhoods such as Vanguard Park and Nisei Gardens on Japan American land adjacent to Koreatown in Koreatown neighbourhood on Fairfax Avenue east of MacArthur Boulevard in western Inglewood. In 1970 Glencoe Village was annexed back into Burbank. The annexation led to what some described as a "race issue" between Japanese Americans living in Glencoe Village and white neighbours because many residents were Highland Chinese descent while most people who lived near or inside the original village wereaucasian or Latino descent. In 1978 after two years of wrangling following community protests against proposed annexation that would have put more than 100% Japanese American residents within minutes' walking distance of their homes, Mayor James Rauch ordered that no further annexations be made without prior approval from both sides - this effectively ended any further race issues around annexation proceedings though they continue today through periodic protests outside City Hall).

Burbank, California is a city located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 145,821 at the 2010 census. It is the eighth most populous city in Los Angeles County and the second most populous city in Orange County. The area now known as Burbank was first populated by Native Americans, who were known as the Tongva people. The Tongva lived on the eastern edge of what is now Los Angeles County and parts of Orange County. In 1803, Spanish explorer Gabriel García Márquez wrote about his travels through what is now Burbank when he visited San Bernardino County for part of his journey from Santa Fe to Pasadena. In 1847, burberanch grantee James Irvine discovered oil reserves near present-day Burbank while exploring for gems in Owens Valley. In 1850, oil production began at nearby Perris and quickly grew into a major industry in Southern California. By 1870, gasoline had become available for cars and prostitution became an important part of local life. However, these early days did not include Burbank until 1906 when it incorporated as a city with a population of just under 50 people. During World War II, many Japanese American citizens were forced to work on military bases within or near Los Angeles City Limits during 1942-1945 due to Executive Order 9066 which categorized all Japanese Americans asenemy aliens and placed them within concentration camps throughout Southern California. The cities of Beverly Hills (1942), West Hollywood (1943), Culver City (1945) and Glendale (1945) experienced high levels of crime and poverty during this time period because there were no other options for those looking to escape their conditions inside concentration camps or face trial or execution if they survived). Following World War II ended, much reconstruction took place across Southern California - including Inglewood (which had been bombed out during World War II) becoming one of largest Black American neighborhoods in America; new housing developments such as Koreatown forming; business districts developing around downtowns; major league baseball teams establishing themselves at Dodger Stadium and other places; streets being renamed after historical figures or wars veterans such as MacArthur Boulevard in Westwood and Iwo Jima Parkway in Boyle Heights
Burbank was founded in 1887 by George Burbank and his wife, Jennie. The city became a center for film production after the invention of the Vitaphone sound system in 1922. In 1936, Hollywood's first all-black movie industry was born with the production of "The Birth of a Nation".
