Burbank, California (CA) is a city located in the Inland Empire of Southern California. The population was 118,326 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Los Angeles County after Hollywood. The first Europeans to visit what is now Burbank were Mexican traders and soldiers on July 28, 1810 while travelling up the San Gabriel River. They named their new town Paso Robles because of a small bridge over the river there. The name stuck and today's Burbank is mostly credited with being founded by George W. Norris who arrived in 1881 as an employee of Paramount Pictures Corporation. His company built some of LA's earliest homes including Rancho La Brea, now part of UCLA campus; Pershing Square; and Guggenheim Museum Annex which still stands today at 3555 Lankershim Boulevard north of Beverly Hills Blvd., though it has been remodeled several times. A plaque on Pershing Square reads "First Village of Los Angeles." The early residents were primarily Anglo-Americans but there was also a significant Mexican American community which grew up around railroad stations and other commercial areas near downtown Burbank. After World War II, when Latinos made up more than half of LA's population, they gradually started buying property throughout downtown Burbank until all but one block had Latino majorities by 1990 when City Councilmember Pat enbana authored an ordinance that eliminated racial segregation in public housing developments based on ancestry or race

By 1912 it had reached a population of over 60 thousand people thanks to immigrants from Hungary (including Hungarians who had been deported during World War I), Russia (including Russian emigrants who had come during the chaotic days following revolution), Austria (many refugees from what became Yugoslavia), Germany (many refugees from WWI), Italy (the port town of Salerno on the Tyrrhenian Sea) and Japan ([town name])
