In 1991 Microsoft Corporation acquired Time Life Pictures for US$6 billion making Burbank one of the largest corporate acquisitions in history up until that time. Today much of what makes Burbank so attractive – its rolling hillsides with fruit orchards dotting them; its leafy streets leading down into lovely small villages; itsfamous Polynesian Village Resort – can be seen only within walking distance or by driving through Interstate 5 towards Culver City or West Covina/Ontario Hills areas where much more recent development has taken place since then including shopping malls such as Staples Center and Regal Cinemas along with large housing developments such as Northridge Mall which opened in 1984 just north of Interstate 5 near UCLA campus
