Buena Park, California is a city located in Southern California. According to the 2010 census, the population was 122,642. It is part of Greater Los Angeles and has been a major settlement since Rancho Buena Vista was granted to Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1795. The area now known as Buena Park was first settled by Native Americans who lived there for fishing, selling goods at Mission San Gabriel Arcángel and other missions. He built Hearst Castle on an estate that he had acquired from José Gomez de la Cruz y Baca. Hearst used the castle as his residence until his death in 1926; after which it became an hotel called the Hearst Tower which then merged with another tower, the Crowne Plaza Hotel (now luxury-branded Regency Ballroom), to form what is now Hearst Tower Resort & Casino. From 1951 to 1957, Ira Lichtenstein lived at 12050 Santa Monica Boulevard while he painted segments of What’s New York? using photos taken by local photographer Arthur Rothstein at nearby Wilshire Boulevard; these paintings are now displayed at MOMA's new permanent collection devoted to American art during the McCarthy years (1951-1958). After World War II suburban growth resumed along Interstate 5 near Hollywood Bowl – including annexation of much of Buena Park – developers created new neighborhoods such as Northridge and Echo Park over time throughout southern Los Angeles County. By 1990 most of buENA PARK had been annexed into Northridge while some remnant properties were annexed into EchoPark Today much of what once made up Buena Park is within EchoPark boundaries thanks to redevelopment efforts underway throughout south LA County by both public entities (such as City Hall East which includes portions of EchoPark) as well as private organizations (like Guggenheim Partners’ attraction/recreational campus being developed adjacent to Echoplex). Buena Park is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 64,719 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The City of Buena Park was incorporated on December 12, 1907. The name "Buena Park" comes from two Mexican words meaning "beautiful place." The first time it was used as a town name was in 1892 when there were only 8 people living there and they chose it because of its beauty. The city's first mayor was Arthur C. Beale who served from 1909 to 1912 and again from 1916 to 1918. He was followed by John Sweeny from 1919 to 1921 and Harry J. Dunnigan from 1922 to 1924. In 1925, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 10 which called for the annexation of neighbouring town of La Habra by Buena Park as part of a planned municipal merger between the two towns which would result in an increase in population by 20%. On April 15, 1926 Mayor Beale sent a letter addressed to all Orange County commissioners urging them not to accept the annexation request because it would create too much duplication among their jurisdictions and would lead to less water and sewer service available within each community while increasing traffic congestion on Highway 101 (the precursor to today's I-5). Despite this protestation by Mayor Beale, on November 7th 1926 La Habra became an annexable city with Buena Park still maintaining control over some aspects such as elections andsanitation services
