In 1923, Brea annexed what are now Fullerton and Garden Grove communities while still maintaining its own government separate from those towns. In 1965, after years of growth and development within Anaheim Hills itself (and despite efforts by some residents to secede), Brea annexed neighboring Santa Ana into its city limits making it one large city once again.
