In 1870s–80s a large number of Chinese immigrants arrived from Hong Kong who worked as laborers on local farms until they were given citizenship and access to education and labor rights by Californians. As part of their assimilation into American society, many Chinatown residents adopted English names such as Alvaro or Harry after becoming familiar with American culture; others retained their original surnames even after being naturalized citizens. One result was that many people who originally hailed from China but became citizens of California identified themselves initially as "Chinese" rather than "Anglos". The primarily agricultural economy continued to dominate until World War II when industry took over; then came a period of rapid growth during the postwar era characterized by suburbanization, high-rise buildings, major league sports teams and new housing developments such as Koreatown which replaced much older Chinatown neighborhoods near downtown Brea. It also caused extensive flooding across parts of Silicon Valley before finally dying down around midnight on October 16th 1902 when muscular shaking stopped any further dramatics followed by hours-long calm On September 29th 1914 during World War I American forces invaded Mexico City resulting in open warfare between America’s allies continued until 1921 when both countries signed peace treaties ending the war . After Mexican independence from Spain there were efforts to rename Brea Coyote Hills in honor of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who led Mexico's successful war against Spanish Americans during this time period .. However these efforts proved fruitless as Coyote Hills reverted back to its original name after he died without achieving any honors or recognition from either side.. Shortly thereafter breas economy boomed due to new technology companies expanding into other industries such as software development services starting up here then quickly moving eastward into Orange County .. additionally Disneyland began opening their doors just eastof town renamed “Disneyland Anaheim” later becoming home to several other amusement park businesses like Six Flags over Texas later called “Granada Park” .. These additions helpedBREA reach its current prosperity along with numerous housing developments completed throughout Beaumont Street/Northwest corner(northwest corner near Quail Creek) .. And continuing through Walnut Street Extension westward towards Long Beach... Today BREA continues experiencing rapid growth with more than 20K residents within commuting distance according to2010 census alone making it one of North America's fastest-growing cities! While some parts have experiencedDecline & Fall over time such as DowntownBrea which experienced heavy redevelopment beginning around 1966 while losing almost all its business function & retail offerings; Main Street areas such as northeast corner Walnut St Extension & south central intersection Beaumont St Extension still maintain high levels Of Business Activity even years following abrupt declines; unlike nearby OAKLAND where nearly every business closed within 6 years following another major quake; despite numerous attempts made by various government entities over many years past few decades+ culminating in local Measure V which failed catastrophically months laterbreas economic future remains extremely bright!
