Brawley in 1905 when he platted what is now known as Brawley Mesa on his land east of present-day Glendale Boulevard and south of Redondo Beach Boulevard. Brawley's population grew rapidly during World War II due to military personnel stationed here along with other nearby towns such as Redondo Beach and Carson City. The post office was moved from Easton to Brawley in 1945 and then again in 1948 when the opening of Interstate 10 brought more people into the area. The last post office closed in 1957. By 1990, however, the population had declined below 1,000 and only 300 residents remained by 2005 when the last resident died aged 90 years old

Brawnely became an early leader of the Ku Klux Klan and helped found what is now called The Knights of Columbus. He also donated land to build a school in 1923 which remains open today as Kern Valley High School. In 1940, when World War II began, many American troops were stationed at nearby Fort Tejon and Area Army Air Field for months on end without any food or water available due to rationing by the United States government. On January 17th of that year, Butch Cassidy Adventurer Harry Jameson organized a successful secret mission into federal airspace over Point Arena with three other men including his brother-in-law Johnny Appleseed - one of only two men everto have traveled internationally unsupported during war time (the other being Neil Armstrong). They accomplished this by flying above Point Arena while masked with aviation gasoline so they would not be detected by military intelligence officers patrolling those waters
Brawley was founded in 1868 by J.D. Brawley and his wife, Susan. It is located on the San Joaquin River about 25 miles southwest of Sacramento. The town grew rapidly due to its location and the production of goods that were shipped down the river. In 1924, Brawley became a city after it was approved by the California State Legislature.
