Brawley, California is a small city located in Kern County, California. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. It has been home to the Brawley Rifle and Pistol Club for over 100 years. In 1892, J.W. Armstrong opened his gun store in Brawley and soon began manufacturing new types of firearms such as shotguns and rifles. In 1915, John Cockerill patented a breech-loading shotgun that became popularized by him and others in the early 20th century. Cockerill's patents helped make guns like the Winchester Model 1903 more common among shooters across America. In 1925, Jens Jensen started production of pistols in Brawley with help from Charles Daly of Hare & Heider Arms Company near Fresno. By 1936 all pistol production had moved to nearby Clovis because of local demand for arms made in Brawley. After World War II ended hostilities throughout most of America there was an increase in crime rates so many people chose to move out of big cities into smaller ones where they could have easier access to weapons retailers and safe storage facilities that allowed them to keep their Firearms unloaded without fear of theft or loss

It wasn't until 1939 that the military vacated and Brawley reverted back to civilian control once again under Mayor Harry Swanson who served until 1951 when he was replaced by Walt Hildebrandt who served until 1973 when he resigned due to health reasons
