There are a few reasons for the decline of Blythe’s population; one being that there is no significant agricultural industry here which has led to limited employment opportunities for locals. Additionally, water shortages have caused many buildings and farms to be abandoned or auctioned off over the years as people have been unable to make use of them due to their inability to irrigate their crops adequately. Nonetheless, much remains unchanged about this small community that stands between Los Angeles and Chinatown draped in vineyards and citrus groves – both natural resources that have long been important hereabouts. For example, one common feature found throughout these rural areas are old barns dating back to early pioneer days that can still be seen standing today (though not used anymore). In addition, there are several small businesses remaining from when BlyTHE had more than fifty residents: such as a grocery store (now closed), dry goods store, bank, post office/mail service center and two churches (one now defunct). Today’s downtown area features several restaurants including Piazza Italiana which has been open since 1978 and housed inside an existing building built back in 1907; as well as smaller stores like Gossamer Grocery & Bakery which remain open today despite having no employees present twelve years ago (due largely to lack of funding from city leaders).
