Blythe is an unincorporated community in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,993 at the 2010 census. Blythe is located on State Route 99 south of Bakersfield. The first Europeans to visit what is now Kern County were the Spanish in 1821 and 1823. A mission was established in 1834 at Rancho San Antonio de Blythe (now part of Lone Pine), which served as a stop on the Brinnon–Stockton Railway. In 1875, Doniphan & Co., a dry goods store, opened a post office at Blythe with one small room. "Bakersfield," named for nearby Butte Creek (now State Route 99), became the town's name in 1896 when it was incorporated as a city by vote of its citizens. The City Council chose "Blythe" because it sounded like "blessed be the land." In 1908, developer George Hines built his expansive new home on two parcels of land north of town which he named Grapeseed Ranch and Pinecrest Ranch; these parcels remain today within Blythe's boundaries. At that time there were no schools or businesses within town limits so residents relied upon their own effort to provide their own needs including farming and ranching skills which they continued to develop until after World War II when larger towns began to form around them and school systems were created throughout the area including Kern Valley Unified School District (KVUSD) in 1959. Many people from surrounding communities such as Brinnon moved into Blythe during this time period providing good jobs for those who could afford it while also giving back to their local community through volunteered services such as street cleaning and recycling programs. Today many people still live near each other close to agriculture, ranching, shopping malls and lakes but have adopted more urban lifestyles characterized by high-speed internet access, restaurants near work areas and easy access to freeways for commuting purposes

Blythe, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,405 at the 2010 census. It is located on the banks of the Kern River and is bordered by Bakersfield to the east, Tulare to the south, and Chowchilla to the north. According to Köppen Climate Classification, Blythe has a hot semi-arid climate, abbreviated "BSk" on climate maps. The first people who lived in what is now Blythe were Native Americans called the Pomo and Guadalupeño. They hunted deer and rabbit for food and fished in nearby rivers. The first European settlers arrived about 1853 when Captains George A. Smith and James Wolk sailed downriver from San Francisco Bay with their vespa boat loaded with supplies for an expedition up the Kern River searching for a new route to reach China through Central Valley. On July 15 they sighted land on either side of the riverbank where they named it Point Conception because this had been their landmark during their explorations of that area some years earlier while exploring present day Bakersfield and Tulare Counties respectively。 After landing here they built a small cabin which served as their summer home until they found more permanent anchorage on an island in upper Kern River below what is now known as Point Conception Hill ().Captain Smith’s Vineyard & Market still stands today just upstream from his original cabin site.– (from “A History of Kern County” by Rufus J.
