The first white people in what is now Blythe were merchants from Patagonia who arrived in 1847. In 1876, an agricultural fair was held in Blythe and it became known as "The Faire of the Plains". A post office was established at Blythe in 1881, and remained in operation until 1918. In 1922, developer Waddell Hargrave donated land to build what would become his home base for oil exploration called Wellton Field. By 1924, production had begun at Wellton Field and soon new towns began popping up around it such as Lompoc (1926), Porterville (1928), points north including North Pole (1929), South Pole (1930) and Elk Grove Village (1931). By 1935 there were over 100 communities within a radius of Kit Carson Dam satellite station near Arroyo Seco reservoir! At that time only about 2% of California's population lived inside of its borders !!! To make matters worse most of these towns started disappearing when water levels went down making way for new farmland or other development projects!

The town is located on the east bank of the Los Angeles River and it is bordered to the north by Encino and to the west by Sherman Oaks. The first settlers in Blythe were farmers who arrived from Northern California in 1887. By 1912, there were four businesses operating in the town—a grocery store, a lumberyard, a sawmill, and a flour mill. In 1917, when Loyola College opened its doors in nearby Westwood Village, students began moving into Blythe to take advantage of its easy access to education and its central location within walking distance of most important institutions in Los Angeles County. The postwar years were tough for many small towns across America as manufacturing jobs dried up during World War II; however, due to tight financial constraints at Loyola College and other schools throughout Southern California, few students left Blythe during that time period. In 1957, when Interstate 5 was built through much of southern California (including parts of LA), BlyTHEY suffered another blow: almost all commercial traffic stopped flowing southbound on I-5 because OF THE HIGH RISING COSTS OF ROADSIDE MAINTENANCE! Businesses could no longer afford to maintain roads that had become clogged with snowplows and sanders each winter after months of maintenance work; moreover, I-5 created an environment where crime increased because motorists had less reason not to steal items they found along the highway while driving through their small community center or simply stop at rest stops on their long journey home
Blythe is located in the eastern Mojave Desert, about halfway between Los Angeles and Phoenix. The town was founded by H. Glenn Beattie in 1912 as a small seasonal settlement on the edge of what is now Yucca Valley. Beattie named it after his daughter Blythe, who was then living in nearby Saugus. In 1916, Beattie erected the first permanent home in Blythe when he bought 10 acres of land from the local rancher. The town continued to grow slowly until World War II, when demand for military housing increased following the entry of Japan into the war. As Blythe grew more popular among servicemen and their families, its post-war growth accelerated. By 1960, there were over 100 residents and 20 businesses serving the population of about 1,000 people. However, due to dwindling resources and competition from other towns within commuting distance for jobs andresidential space, Blythe began to shrink during the early 21st century. Today, only a few scattered buildings remain from earlier days.
