The first settler in what is now Blythe was Wm Hite who arrived around 1900. He built a cabin near present day US-62 and built two other cottages before he died in 1902. His son, Willis Hite Jr., took over the family farm and farming business until his death in 1949. In 1916, Harry Ayer sold his interest in Ayer’s Clothing Store to Rufus Ewing who renamed it Alcoa Aluminum Company Manufacturing Plant No 1 (later known as Eastern Air Lines). In 1949, Alcoa moved its plant from Sparks, Nevada to Blythe after purchasing land east of US-287 which they used for agricultural purposes only until 1956 when they started making aluminum cans using an open hearth furnace process then moved to their current location next door to Eastern Air Lines factory on April 15 1957 In 1969 Western Electric Corporation bought Alcoa's assets including the old eastern air lines factory site which became Western Electric Place with office space leased from Sears Roebuck & Co . However production stopped at this location because of competitive forces with Intel Corporation's actions across town at their new facility south of I-5 . The community name may have been inspired by actress Blysse Randalls who had several homes here while filming her 1951 movie "A place like Heaven".

Today the economy of Blythe is based largely on agriculture and recreational tourism; however some businesses do exist in downtown Blyth
