Beverly Hills is one of the most famous and wealthiest cities in America. The first people to live in Beverly Hills were the Tongva people who called it "Nahua" meaning "place where there are trees." In 1887, two brothers by the name of Donaldson bought land north of present day Beverly Hills Boulevard and built a small cabin known as The Rancho del Norte which they named after their rancho in Mexico City which they had bought years earlier. They used part of their money from this rancho to buy more land and began to build what would come to be known as The Parkland Estate. Donaldson died in 1893 and his brother Maurice took over management of The Rancho del Norte and continued to build additional homes along North Beverly Boulevard until his death in 1907. In 1912, Harry Houdini moved from Paris, France to live with his wife Mabel Lasky at 4159 North Hollywood Blvd., then also known as The Parkland Estate. With its long red-brick building walls lined with tall sycamore trees (now visible from many different directions across North Hollywood Avenue), Houdini's home was an imposing sight; however, it was actually only one floor high with no upstairs.. In 1915 actress Mae West purchased the rights for $1,000 from Donaldson's widow Mabel Lasky for use as her own personal property once she had divorced her husband Harry Houdini. West ran The Naughty Girls nightclubs out of her home between 1915-1916 before moving into business full time as an independent promoter/entrepreneur behind several successful businesses including breeding star pigeons (she imported these birds because they were considered pests by other owners) before opening her own female strip club called Bettie Page's Delight on October 15th 1916 at 1250 South Western Avenue - now Pioneer Hall inside UCLA's Village Green campus). After World War I ended in 1918 without any major conflicts taking place within or outside Of Europe; thenWWI started becoming more aggressive & war news began spreading around so quickly that some women decided that instead of being stuck inside their bedrooms all day like during WWI they wanted some excitement & adventure too! So on October 16th 1919 actress Mae West leased space next door @ 1251 South Western Ave from local entrepreneur Dorothy Kilgallen who later became well-known columnist for Hearst Corporation Newspapers (& still resides there today). From then until my very days about 1921 when Marilyn Monroe moved into 5500 Graceland Drive close by I think my neighbors up north probably thought we were having a wild party down south! LOL Anyway back to 1920’s thru 1945...Mae West operated our club while I lived next door playing hostess hoping someone might want me as a girlfriend & eventual spouse someday...& man did those ladies have fun! lol” After living next door neighbor Dorothy Kilgallen for just over 10 years she passed away suddenly on December 8th 1925 leaving behind 2 daughters: Rita Hayworth (born May 14th 1926) marriedto British actor Peter Sellers (& divorced 1951)and Ethelred Sturridge (born August 7th 1927).At age 83 year old Mrs K left behind 3 children: Lydia Mila Steinem (born November 9th 1941), Samantha Smith (married 1969 Tommy Hilfiger) And Joe Mantegna Jr.(born January 3rd 1942)...Marilyn Monroe moved into 5500 Graceland Drive adjacent to Mrs Ks house next door on October 15TH 1946 just over 4 months after Mrs Ks death!!! Now remember this timeline because later that same year Harry Houdini filed a lawsuit against MGM claiming he was never paid royalties for performance atMrs Ks stripclub & he may have been entitled to millions due to prior engagements he had already agreed to BEFORE she passed away!!! On February 28TH 1947 MGM announced that all remaining claims against Mr Houdini would be settled outofcourt finally ending almost 50 years worth of lawsuits!! Thousands upon thousands dollars were paid out+Hollywood blacklisting continues even though everyone knows it wasn't true! So here we are 47 years laterstill waiting on something supposedly owed us by Mr Houdini but if you look back through this timeline you'll see that nothing ever happened aside from publicity given off by both parties involved!! Why? Because neither side wanted anything productive or meaningful accomplished!!
