In Beverly Hills, Ammunition Depot was one of the most important ammunition stores in California. Opened in 1865 by A.M. Pease, this store served as a proving ground for many of the arms used during the Civil War. Ammunition from here was used in all sorts of battles, both American and Confederate. In 1870, Ammo Depot moved to its current location on Sunset Boulevard, just east of Western Avenue. Here it continued to serve as a major center for ammunition research and development until the early years of World War II. Throughout much of its history Ammo Depot has been run by men who have dedicated their lives to selling ammo and helping shooters achieve their shooting goals. On July 1st, 1916 Johnnie Bowers opened Ammo Depot with his brother-in-law Sam Malone as his manager/owner/chief inspector. With more than 150 employees at its peak, Ammo Depot was one of the largest ammunition stores in California – and it still is! In 1990, Winchester-Remington Incorporated merged with700 rounds per minute company Hornady Firearms Corporation to form Hornady Ammunition Division (HOD). In 1997, HOD changed its name to Hornady Manufacturing Incorporated (HMO).

The Beverly Hills area was originally inhabited by the Tongva people. The first European to arrive in what is now Beverly Hills was Captain Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, who discovered the California Channel Islands in 1542. In 1781, Spanish missionaries founded Mission San Gabriel Arcángel in what is now Beverly Hills. The mission was destroyed by a fire in 1821, but its ruins remain today. In 1865, General George Custer and his army fought at Gettysburg in Pennsylvania and were repatriated to America via Los Angeles. Custer's widow, Jane Hastings Custer, purchased part of the Rancho La Brea property that includes present-day Beverly Hills from her husband for $1 million on July 25, 1887. She named her new estate after her late husband. Beverly Hills began as a small community of about 100 residents when Mrs. Custer divided her large ranch into tracts and sold them to various homebuilders who laid out streets and subdivided their lots into homes. By 1907, there were more than 1,000 active homeowners in Beverly Hills; it had become one of Southern California's most rapidly growing communities during the early 20th century. During World War II (1941-45), many local businesses went into operation providing essential wartime needs such as munitions production at nearby RCA Victor studios and contributions to the war effort through fundraising drives or donation of goods or services such as food banks or clothing donations to troops stationed abroad. Many post-war families moved away from Beverly Hills after the war ended but many others continued to grow larger families with additional dwellings being built along Westwood Boulevard between Wilshire Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway until well into the 21st century – making it one of those "new" American cities experiencing rapid growth throughout much of this period with little regard for traditional values which have often held back suburban expansion elsewhere within city limits (e.g., other schools). Beverly Hills has long been known for its affluent lifestyle - features associated with classic Hollywood types including movie stars/actresses such as Mary Pickford (who lived adjacent to where she later bought land for a private golf club), Sammy Davis Jr., Joan Crawford, Lana Turner and Betty Grable among others - although over time some elements have begunemerging which are less flashy but no less important: an increasing number of middle-class professionals living near downtown LA rather than driving all night long to get here; greater diversity among residents reflected by recent population censuses showing Asians make up 12% of all residents while Hispanics account for 28% – making this relatively diverse city one of few remaining major Uptown neighborhoods not only according to population size but also ethnicity alone; significant percentage (30%) OF BUILDINGS IN THE AREA ARE OWNED BY BLACKS & HISPANICS
The Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles was first settled by the Tongva people in the 18th century. They were later joined by other Native American groups including the Chumash and Mission Indians. The area became a part of Mexican territory after California gained statehood in 1850. In 1876, when Sutter's Mill changed hands multiple times during the ranching boom, its owner, James Buchanan Wellman, donated land to the city for a park. The wellman Park was named in his honor and is now one of LA's most popular tourist destinations.
