The area has since been renamed Gun Targets Park after Samuel Gentry owner of A&W Brewery who donated land to the community in 1961. Today, Gun Targets Park features more than 240 target pistols and shotguns dating back to 1851 as well as dozens of antique firearms that can be enjoyed by visitors. There are also several museums located within walking distance of Gun Targets Park including the American Legion Museum which contains artifacts from throughout America’s history while also housing a collection of firearms used during World War II; and theBenicia Maritime Museum which tells the story of how Benicia became an important port during both world wars with displays including destroyer USS Constitution class ships and submarines; among other items.

Benicia was founded in 1847 by Captain George Baker as a small station on the American Pacific Railroad. It became an incorporated town in 1872. In 1906, Benicia was designated as the capital of Californias new state of California. The city's professional sports teams are the Giants (NFL), Mavericks (NBA), and Warriors (ABA).

Benicia is a town located in southern California, on the east side of the San Joaquin River. The first European to enter what is now Benicia was Gaspar de Portolà, who explored the area in 1769. It was named for Benjamin Franklin, an American politician and scientist who served as Vice President of the United States from 1837 to 1841. In 1846, Benicia became part of Fresno County. The early history of Benicia can be traced back to ranching times when Spanish landholders operated herds of cattle and horses through their missions and towns such as Loreto and Santa Cruz del Norte. By 1860, many families had moved into the town after hearing about easy relocation rates offered by then-Governor John Blythe at the urging of businessman James Fenton. With few exceptions, all subsequent businesses in Benicia were founded by men: JFenton ran a sawmill; George Sutter opened a steamboat service along the river; Elisha Doheny built a flour mill; Charles Goodyear established an ice cream factory; Wm Haven started a logging company; Hiram Maxim built his largest ammunition plant (later renamed Maxxar) here. However, despite this preponderance of male entrepreneurs, women also played important roles during some key moments in town's history. Esther Cardenas began working at her father's bakery near downtown in 1865 before moving to her own business two years later. FemaleBTN reporters Vicky Pedraza and Nellie Connelly both worked for local newspapers before leaving for larger jobs shortly thereafter— Connelly went on to become mayorof Los Angeles while Pedraza eventually became head writer at "The New York Times". Benicia experienced its first tornado outbreak on November 5th 1908 when two EF3 tornadoes touched down just north of downtown killing one person and injuring several others. One week later on December 4th 1928 another EF3 struck central city causing extensive damage including entire blocks being leveled out or destroyed with most homes losing roofing or other significant structural components (this particular tornado remains one of only three known Ulysses S Hill tornadoes). On October 12th 1933 an EF5 slammed into downtown Benicia destroying everything within sight with over seventy people killed outright (almost half of which were children). And finally there was an EF5 strike that hit northcentral city destroying almost every building within yards before funneling northeast towards Sacramento resulting in ninety-six fatalities both inside and outside City Hall alone (now known as Pritchett Building).

Benicia is located on the east bank of the San Francisco Bay, about 30 miles (48 km) north of San Francisco and about 20 miles (32 km) south of Oakland. It lies on the southern tip of SLO Island. The first Europeans to visit what is now Benicia were Spanish traders in 1769-70 who named it La Paz because they encountered a Mexican officer there on his way to Monterey Peninsula. The Presidio of Santa Clara was founded in 1824 by Captain José Joaquin de Mendoza as an adobe fortification protecting what became Contra Costa County and surrounding areas from Native American raiders and fur trappers. In 1847, San Francisco City Councilmember Richard Teller proposed that the entire county be turned over to Santa Clara County for annexation into the City of San Francisco. At least one source says that this idea originated with Mayor John Folsom; however it never gained traction until after he left office in 1851. In 1850, James Waugh surveyed and platted Benicia as part of Rancho Santiago del Valle which he shared with Sacramento Company man Manuel Nieto and others including Jens Wilhelm Heeresberg Jr., Johan Christian Andresen, George Heard, Adolphus Greeley etc...Waugh's plat included present-day Main Street between Second Street and 3rd Street southwesterly from Sloat Boulevard Most likely due to its close proximity to Mission Bay + good access to water via Sloat Boulevard & main street
