The brothers founded the business in order to provide firearms and ammunition for the local militia. Over time, the store grew into a major force in Belmont with a wide variety of products and services. In 1927, Doctor George Watts passed away and was succeeded by his son, Dr. Lawrence Watts. In 1941, Lawrence Watt sold the business to Julius Stratton who operated it until 1959 when it was purchased by Harry Weisbrod who continued to operate it until 1987 when it was sold to John Fenton who operated it until 2003 when it was bought by Richard Hillman who continues to run it today.

Grant Road and Pico Canyon Road - as well as its access to water from Lake Arrowhead. In 1884, Belmont became an incorporated municipality under the name of “City of Industry”. In 1925, City Council adopted Resolution No. 2 which authorized annexation of part of neighbouring Covina into Belmont for economic development purposes; this action created what is now known as Covina Boulevard between First Street and Second Street within Belmont limits (see History of Covina Boulevard). In 1951 City Council adopted Resolution No 4 authorizing annexation into Belmont of all or any portion of Fontana since it considered that such annexation would be necessary for proper planning and future growth in both cities (see History of Fontana). On June 12th 1959 Mayor James Wesson announced that he had signed legislation creating downtown Bellevue – which included much needed parking space – following heated discussions between Bellevue business owners and then-mayor Jerry Brown during a public hearing on Bellevue Avenue near Park Square mall (now CenturyLink Center). This event marked downtown Bellevue’s entrance into full communityhood with municipal services being available to all citizens rather than just those who lived within 1/4 mile (0 km) or less. It is part of the larger Eastside/Belmont area which has a population of over 25,000. The first European to visit Belmont was Gaspar de Portolà in 1769. He named it after his friend and fellow traveler Antonio del Castello who had also visited that year. At its peak in 1821, Belmont had about 4500 residents and was home to a public school, a jail, two churches (one Methodist and one Lutheran), three shops and four dwellings. In 1874–75 there were 21 saloons in town with an average wage for a full-time worker of $2 per day. By 1900 only six businesses remained: three stores ( Farmers' Insurance Company; J & W Implement Manufacturer; Sperry Glass Manufacturer), one hotel (The North American Hotel) and one post office (U.S., Mexican Post Office). In 1906 the community went through some serious changes when railroad mogul Henry Ford established his new company's headquarters nearby – now known as Dearborn Hills – and started expanding production within Dearborn County into what would become Belmont Township along with other townships in eastern San Bernardino County. This increased traffic on local roads so much that horizontal streets were built throughout town to accommodate more cars racing down each street corner; this caused many homes to be replaced by largeenterprises such as factories or banks while others just served as warehouses for Ford's materials storage until they could be demolished and rebuilt later on Clark Street adjacent to Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Catholic Church where Ford himself built his famous factory complex between 1919-1924 using land donated by then Mayor John Fenton which became today's parking lot for Roy Rogers State Park across from City Hall. In 1925 Griggs Hardware opened up shop at 5252 South Elmira Avenue - still exists as Griggs Hardware Store #1 today - becoming one of the most important general storekeepers in town during its time period until it closed circa 1975 due to declining sales volume combined with changing technology etc.; however by 1955 it reopened under new ownership as The Emporium store before closing again circa 1985 when store inventory ran low following gradual conversion into apartments building now known as Griggs Place development which overlooks entire business district including former grocery store buildings currently used as residential units In 1954–55 when Interstate 10 was newly constructed bypassing downtown Los Angeles such as gridlock resulted causing major economic decline for much of southeastern San Bernardino County especially around original industrial areas like BELMONT which lost over half its population by 1960 due predominantly to lack of jobs available outside city limits rather than exodus from city because social services no longer existed or were too expensive inside city limits especially given increasing numbers outlying villages popping up around cities like Riverside both prior to I-10 construction eroding resources necessary for those villages while inner-city neighborhoods continueto experience significant poverty rates despite recent efforts by various government entities particularly mayor Kevin Johnson et al.) resulting finally culminating in demolition/ takeover of entire old neighborhood centerblock business district centered around Stonington Drive/Elmira Avenue formerly called "the heart" during 2003 redevelopment process led by then City Manager Donny Hochuli into today's redeveloped Community Development Corporation parkland adjacent thereto utilizing funds originally earmarked for renovation project but ultimately deferred without further explanation amid continuing questions about governance structure leading directly back to former manager Hochuli himself after he left the job prior to fully implementing certain Initiatives!!
