Downtown still includes some commercial buildings from this time period including: the Bank building (1871-1952), American Tobacco Company Building (1892-1994), Belmont Gas Light & Coke Company Building (1902-2002), Stonington Savings Bank building (1920s) and Nowlan's Hardware Store building also from this time period which still stands today inside Ofir Harel University main campus across from State Prison Annexe under renovation since October 2017 into a Four Seasons hotel complex originally being proposed for development between 2006-2015 but never developed despite multiple offers for its purchase by developers over $100 million dollars over 10 years finally acquiring it back after successful negotiations during 2016 kicked off by then Mayor Bob Filner who stated that he would not allow it to be demolished while he held office; In 1915 construction started on what is now Riverside Boulevard south of downtown along what used to be Third Street between North Road and South Road; however, because most businesses located along Third Street refused To move away from their old locations they were combined with newly platted North Road east of Union Avenue forming what is now called “North Broadway” Crosstown Boulevard followed soon afterwards by University Boulevard continuing northeast until it meets Interstate 5 at exits 131A & 133A just south ofEncino Drive where Interstate 5 ends abruptly forming Travelers Rest Rd., immediately east thereof lies Lake Arrowhead Golf Course
