Belmont is a town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 19,811 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest municipality in San Bernardino County after Riverside. The Belmont city limits are located to the south of downtown and to the east of Claremont. North of Belmont is Reseda Village, which borders Los Angeles to the north and east and Covina to the south. The townsite was first developed as part of what is now known as Southern Andogansett Township on Rancho de la Paloma land grant by Juan Bautista Alvarado in 1836. In February 1861, following Californios' successful attempt to secede from Mexico, three men – Isaac Norris (the future Mayor of Belmont), John Crain (future Postmaster General) and George Hearn – each purchased 1/4 interest in Rancho La Paloma for $5 per share from its owner Manuel Nieto. On July 21, 1866 Mexican War veteran José Altamirano sold 2 acres (0.8 ha) northeast of town for $10 to Benjamin Fenton who then leased it back to Altamirano for 10 years with an option for another five years renewable at $15 per year should he sell it again; this lease formed core business area around today's Main Street corner with Storer Road). In 1886 Charles Wiegand opened his grocery store on Main Street near where stores still line that stretch today before moving into a more permanent building on Third Street later that year. From 1890 until 1912 when it closed due to World War I hostilities, Wiegand's store was one of two located side by side along Main Street just south of Encinas Road until they were combined into one building at 6th Avenue & Main Street in 1912 or 1913 during prohibition era when alcohol became legal hereabouts In 1915 Hohmann Bros., hardware store owners adjoining Wiegand's on 3rd Avenue & Encinas Road joined forces with local brewer Anheuser Busch Brewing Co., Incorporated making beer available only at Hohmann Bros.'s store away from consumers . Thisenterprise grew rapidly becoming sales volume over 100 cases per day by 1922 . In 1923 Anheuser Busch merged with Seltzer Brewing Company forming ABI Beer Corporation providing operations for both breweries throughout most if not all western US through their subsidiary brands including Budweiser and Schlitz On October 15th 1935 AnheuserBusch announced plans to build a new brewery complex adjacent what would become Town Center Drive including land formerly used by Hardware Stores Association while also annexing much surrounding unincorporated territory increasing corporatesize now topping 500 employees across six buildings totaling some 5 million square feet plus warehouse space inside newly built complexes accounting for 25% or so annually global market share . To complete these major projects Completion Date being set as November 9th 1937 coincided with depression creating shortages resulting in price hikes across several products leading company managers vowing never again will such situations occur . At present over 60 million barrels have been produced here since opening Belmont Brewery becoming one of America’s most visible symbols Belmont was platted as a town by Nathan Purdy in 1863 within boundaries set by James Irvine original surveyor – boundary lines remaining largely unchanged until 1889 when eastern boundary was moved westward about half a mile due southwest cornering Claremont Boulevard which became main street

In 1868, when it became an independent city, Mayor James J. Baughman built what is now the City Hall and other civic buildings at Second Street and Avenue H in what is now downtown Belmont. In 1887–88, mayor John Fenton added an extra square block to downtown to make way for new high school buildings that would serve as both municipal center and home for many businesses located along Franklin Street (now Civic Center Drive). In 1906–07 Mayor John Waddell approved plans for a large water tower to be built on top of San Francisco's Financial District; construction began but stopped due to World War I interruptions. When skyscrapers began being erected near City Hall in the 1920s, Mayor Clarence Saunders ordered that all tall structures within one kilometer (0.4 mile) of City Hall be knocked down and replaced with smaller ones because he felt they were taking away from public space which should be used for art galleries, parks etc., not commercial uses such as skyscraper construction! In 1984 voters passed a resolution ratifying the incorporation of Berkeley into Contra Costa County; this made Belmont an official member municipality with its own police department and taxation system separate from that of Berkeley
