Belmont is a small town in Southern California, located on the edge of the Mojave Desert. The population was 5,516 at the 2010 census. It is part of Mono County. Belmont began as a cattle station and railroad depot on the now-defunct Central Pacific Railroad. The post office was established in 1875, and the town was first incorporated in 1912. In 1926, it became an area for military training during World War II due to its location on ammunition dumps used by Marines and Army reservists. When Spanish settlement began in what is now Southern California (now Nevada), many people chose this name because it meant "no more heathenism." The townsite that includes present-day Belmont was first patented by Nicholas Paltridge on November 3rd, 1859 as Rancho San Bernardino de la Peña y Belmonte Viejo. On July 15th of 1870 Josefina Pacheco claimed title to Rancho San Bernardino de la Peña y Belmonte Viejo from her husband Manuel Pacheco through their son Santiago Pacheco; Josefina had married Manuel when he came overland from Mexico with his family during the Mexican–American War. After years of bitter legal battles between various claimants to ownership of this land - including Juan Bautista Alvarado who ranched here until about 1886 - original homesteaders named their village San Bernardino de los Padres De La Caridad (St Benedict's Monastery). Thereafter it gradually acquired its current spelling--Belmont--based on stories heard by early settlers about white soldiers fighting Indians near San Bernardino Canyon where they stopped for supplies en route back to Fort Huachuca south of Los Angeles; these soldiers had called their new camp El Monte (the mountain). Some believe that one version of this story involved General Grant's army mistakenly entering into Angelinos country while under cover of night intending only to pillage local villages instead; upon finding out what occurred they returned home preceded by days of celebration which included music and dance at chapels all along the way! This so-called 'battle field' today forms one end of Prospect Road which runs adjacent to Imperial Valley Wildlife Preserve just east off Interstate 10 near Ontario National Forest west off I-5 outside Temecula.)

It served as an auxiliary airfield for military units during World War I and World War II. The airport was eventually dedicated as Belmont Air Force Base in 1945. Today it is home to the United States Air Forces Central Command's Wright Patterson AFB Station #1 which provides command situational awareness for all USAAF activities across Asia Pacific region by providing real-time imagery support for Operation Pacificcoastal Shield and other missions
Belmont is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. It was founded on July 25, 1868 by John Sutter and his partner George Hearst. The population was 26,549 at the 2010 census. The name of the city is taken from a grant given by Governor Edmunds to John Sutter in 1859 for land grants in the area.
