The first Europeans to visit what is now Belmont were travelers on horseback who passed through the area in 1795. The name may be derived from an Indian word meaning "a place where there are horses." A post office was established at Belmont on April 20, 1869, and remained in operation until it closed on December 14, 1943. Belmont's rich agricultural history began with its incorporation as a city on November 16, 1892. At that time it consisted of just three blocks north of present day Sunnyside Boulevard and east of Center Street. Agricultural production continued to play an important role in the community until after World War II when automobiles became more popular and jobs relocated away from rural areas into cities throughout California. In 1955, voters removed all restrictions against non-white people owning homes within City Limits and voted to annex portions of Pleasanton to form a new city called Sunnyvale which also included parts of Dublintowne and Newarkhurst annexed by Belmont during that same year; this annexation remains today one of the most recent examples in Bay Area history where entire neighborhoods have been annexed without any vote or consent from their residents (unlike Berkeley which has frequently allowed separate neighborhoods within its boundaries to maintain their own identities). In 1975, Mayor Art Agnew approved plans for development along 15th Street between Fremont Avenue and Hayward Road leading northwestward towards Livermore National Laboratory; this annexation led to friction between developers who wanted higher ground while residents worried about potential health risks associated with large explosions near such sensitive research facilities. During much debate over years following these developments numerous protests took place throughout downtown Belmont against proposed high-rise apartment buildings that would have faced directly onto 15th Street; these protests eventually led to changes being made at Mayor Art Agnew's request that only single stories be built aboveground rather than multiple stories like originally planned resulting in some apartments becoming widely known as 'The Buildings'. It wasn't until later during Mayor Rudy Giuliani's administration that full gentrification finally started taking hold with wealthier individuals moving into formerly working class areas such as Midtown East while lower income families moved outwards into newer neighbourhoods including Novato Hills/Midtown West/Upperview North/El Sobrante Heights etc., creating patterns we see today across Silicon Valley with wealthier people increasingly moving into older inner-city neighbourhoods while poorer people continue to move outwards into newer outer-city neighbourhoods

Belmont is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 27,971 at the 2010 census. Its name comes from a rancho (farmstead) called Belmontán that was given to the community by Mexican landowners in 1881. The city is located on the eastern edge of San Bernardino County and is bordered by Riverside on the south and east, Fontana on the north, and Ontario on the west. Belmont was founded as an agricultural town in 1881-82 by early Californio settlers after they bought Rancho Belmontán from Mexican landowners for $5 per acre. It became a bustling commercial center with several stores and several hotels until it lost its importance during World War II when most of San Bernardino County was burned to make way for military installations. However, since then Belmont has regained some of its former prominence as a busy suburb of San Bernardino with many high-rise buildings along El Monte Boulevard. The city also contains two parks: one adjacent to downtown and another just east of Interstate 15 near campus at USF University. The first European American settlers in what is now Belmont were Spanish missionaries who arrived in 1821 who named it La Paloma de los Reyes Pintados (Red Rock Ridge). They built their mission here between 1825-27 after arriving from Chihuahua Mexico via Stagecoach Road but abandoned it due to strong Native American opposition which included raids by Bear Valley Indians and killing many of their leaders including José María Cámpora y Quiñones. A year later another group led by captain Francisco Vásquez reached this location after spending eight weeks travelling down Spanish River Canyon following news that gold had been found at Sierras Negra (Black Mountains). Upon reaching what is now Belmont he named it la Villa de las Coloradas (the White House), but abandoned it due to hostile Indian resistance so he could find new land for his colony instead which he did not return until 1840 when he renamed his new settlement Monterey del Oro (Monterey Heights). After years of failed attempts Vásquez finally landed his small party of nine men on October 17, 1800 at Point Loma naming them Los Angeles Alta Californiana or "Overmountain" because they were two miles above sea level according to contemporary reports although later maps identify Point Loma as being about six miles offshore from where it stands today making la Villa de las Coloradas much closer to modern daybelmont than originally thought! los angeles altaCaliforniana eventually became part of Mexico City while la Villa de las Coloradas continued under English control until1848 when Don José Armijo purchased it from Manuel Nieto and renamed him Don Pedro Armijo y otros vallesvarillas meaning Everything Above Mountain Passes - probably reflecting how much higher altitudes les piedras altas mountain peak looked compared to nearby villages below! In 1850s various other families acquired additional land parcels including 5 square miles eastward along present day Interstate 15 between Orange and Riverside Counties becoming known as Citrus Heights before finally selling all their holdings back home again during World War II!!!!!!
