Belmont has a rich history with firearms, dating back to the early 1800s. The city was founded on July 4th, 1824 by Commodore John Montgomery and his wife Esther. At that time, Belmont was part of the Mexican Empire and had no gun laws whatsoever. One of the first guns in Belmont was a shotgun purchased by Commodore John Montgomery from Captain Samuel Parker at an auction held in Monterey in 1827. The following year, Commodore John Montgomery presented a pistol to Mayor George Richardson for use as a mayoral warning shot against Indian raiders. In 1829, Captain David Wigglesworth of the California Battalion of Volunteers acquired two shotguns from Captain Nathaniel Banks of Boston for $50 each. These pistols were probably used as gag gifts by belmont mayors during gubernatorial campaigns (Dwight Dye being one such mayor). In 1830, constable Isaac Pryor issued a proclamation forbidding the carrying of handguns without special licenses from April 1st until September 15th. This law remained in effect until it was repealed by Governor Donoughue in 1860. The first licensed gunsmith in Belmont was James Ewing who opened his business on Fillmore Street on October 8th, 1834. It is interesting to note that this particular shop was also where Colt Firearms founder Nicholas Long made his first rifle purchase. Belmont is a small town located in the San Joaquin Valley of California, about 30 miles north of Fresno. The population was 1,471 at the 2010 census. It is located on U.S. Route 99 and State Route 44. Belmont was founded in 1881 by John A. Belmont, a wagon driver and entrepreneur who had bought land east of Fresno from the Reyes family for $5 per acre (2 hectares). The town name means " horse chestnut." The first store was built in 1885, and within three years, there were six stores in Belmont and 100 residents. In 1888, Mr. Belmont donated to the town an old abandoned mine called the Mountain Mines which produced coal until it closed in 1922. Today part of the campus of Stanislaus State University is located within walking distance of Belmont's downtown square. The belting industry played a significant role in early development of Belmont; prior to World War II, local farmers used large wagons filled with ore to transport basaltic lava rocks out to nearby smelters for processing into steel products such as bolts and forgings. By 1915, over 50% of all employment within the city limits came from mining; by 1930 mining accounted for only 2% of total payrolls but still generated more than one-third of all tax revenue for the city fathers In 1948 Drury Mfg., Inc., a supplier to aluminum companies headquartered locally (and also manufacturing tools), became one of several American companies that opened plants near Belmont during what has come commonly known as “the Aluminum Revolution” because production soared from 635 tons/year in 1947 to 15,000 tons/year by 1959 In 1951 Sam’s Club opened its first store here after expanding into southern California Belmont now ranks third among Californians with most Fortune 500 companies headquarters ranking outside their city limits Today we continue our tradition as a vibrant community supportiveof public education through our students both high school students as well as adults who are involved with many different aspects including government service

Belmont is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 26,651 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city within the San Francisco Bay Area. Belmont was founded on May 15, 1853 by George Belmont and his brother Elias Belmont. The name of the town comes from Mount Diablo which stood to the east of their citrus orchard. They called their land "The Hills" because they could see Mount Diablo from their orchard and it looked like a hill to them. In 1854 they built a blockhouse on Castle Hill overlooking Castle Valley and opened up their orchard to consumers. Their slogan was "The Perfect Fruit basket". In 1856 William Randolph Hearst bought 20 acres (8 ha) of land in what is now Belmont for $5,000 (). He named it Hearst Ranch after himself and began developing it into an estate with vineyards, cattle ranches and other crops. Today much of Hearst Ranch still exists including parts of Belmont that are included in the city limits
Belmont was founded in 1876 by two brothers, George and John Belmont. The town was named for the proprietor of a farm near the original site. The area now known as Belmont was first settled by the Kumeyaay people in the late 17th century. By 1800, they had migrated to present-day California. In 1876, when George Belmont married Sophia Powers, they moved to what is now what is called North Belmont Avenue in downtown Belmont. The town became a city in 1911 and annexed part of neighboring San Francisco. In 1933 it merged with Fremont to form the City of Fremont.
