On November 10 following Carrillo's death Mexican citizens Lorenzo Martinez and Manuel Nieto bought from him for $2 per acre ($10/acre·year) parts of Rancho Laguna Seca which included present-day Belmont Village and much of today's east side streets such as Pico Boulevard and North Avenue. A post office called "Belmont" was established at this site on December 9, 1828.
