Belmont, California is a city located in Contra Costa County, California. It is the most populous city in the East Bay area of San Francisco and also one of the most ethnically diverse cities in America. The city's history dates back to 1853 when it was founded by prospectors Wiley Post and Jesus Arguello. Today, Belmont is known for its gunsmithing and toolmaking industries as well as its vibrant community atmosphere. The first handguns made in Belmont were imitation pistols modeled after those produced at Fort Point on the Potomac River. These pistols were used by law enforcement officers as backup weapons during operations against Native Americans. In 1857, local gunsmiths Wm Henson and Jesse Bowers began producing real firearms for use by residents of Belmont and nearby villages. By 1861, guns had become an important part of local society with Citizens’ Rifle Club being organized to provide defense against Indian attacks. In 1868, John Brownell opened his own gunshop in downtown Belmont which became an early center for firearm-related commerce in the United States. This shop served as a popular tourist destination for shooters from around the country who came to admire Brownell's unique firearms designs. After Brownell's death, his son Harry took over his business until it was sold to Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1903. At this time, Winchester began manufacturing rifles under license from American arms manufacturer Colt Firearms Corporation (the company that would later produce the Model 1911 pistol). In 1909, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company forming what would eventually be called Winchester Repeating Arms Company (WRC). At WRC, engineers developed a new shotgun caliber – .30-caliber Special – which they named "Model 795",later shortened to "Model 7" –in order to compete with bolt-action shotguns manufactured by Mauser & Co., Sturmgewehr 9 mm Luger and several other manufacturers at this time In 1934/1935 European military production models of submachineguns designated MG 007 ("Birdcage Gun") were successfully introduced into North America through mail order from Germany; these models featured telescopic magazine capacities above 10 rounds per revolver while still using breechloading hammerless action similar to that of earlier Mauser 98 carbines In 1938/1939 two new calibers (9mm Parabellum ("Lafayette"), .45 ACP) were introduced: 9mm Auto Pistol (.40 S&W) chambered specifically for autos while .45ACP Automatic Pistol (.45 Colt) chambering exclusively for revolver cartridges led quickly into general availability throughout North America

The old brick buildings are gone but many remain as residential dwellings or commercial properties including: Judge Advocate General's Building (now URS HealthCare), Masonic Temple (former Hecht & Schwartz pharmacy), Kaiser Permanente Building (former Safeway store), belmont post office building (former Laundromat restaurant), "Doris" restaurant and several light industrial buildings that were converted into apartments or duplexes during the late 1990s bustles of new housing development adjacent to downtown which has gradually lost its vitality over time due largely to freeway expansion just east of downtown within walking distance now replaced by high-rise office towers with little else in between In terms of architecture some interesting buildings still stand today such as: Sacramento Catholic Church ( built 1895 ), Belmont Male High School Annexe (built 1965 ), Sacred Heart Cathedral - also known as Holy Name Cathedral () it features an intricate spire made out of 624uminum rods (), St Michael’s Episcopal Church - also known as Our Lady Of Peace Parish and Our Lady Of Good Counsel Chapel () both built 1923 Another well-known structure which still stands today is: Hercules Migratory Laboratory Building (), once home to Air Resources Laboratory

Belmont was founded in 1854 by Jedediah Smith and his wife, Emma. The Belmont post office was established in 1855, and the first store opened in 1860. In 1865, the first telephone line was installed in Belmont. In 1870, a sawmill and gristmill were built on the banks of the Feather River. The town of Belmont grew rapidly due to its location near water resources and its convenient transportation options. By 1883, there were over 100 businesses in Belmont. Many of these businesses became successful thanks to their innovative methods of marketing and selling products. In 1916, automobile production began at nearby Ford Motor Company’s San Ramon factory. This new industry quickly attracted attention from local entrepreneurs who set up shop to produce automobiles for sale within town limits. Sales increased significantly due to this new development, and by 1922 there were over 50 automotive businesses operating in Belmont! Today, many of these businesses are still in operation today – including one that is dedicated to recreation!
