Belmont was founded in 1887 by George W. Belmont, a dentist and local politician. The City of Belmont joined the city of San Francisco in 1906, and in 1911, the two cities merged to form San Francisco County. In 1976, the City of Belmont was annexed into the new city of San Jose. In 1835, James Hirst settled a claim near present-day downtown Belmont along what is now Beltline Boulevard; he named his settlement "Hurst's Crossing." In 1839 Charles Goodyear arrived with his family from England; Goodyear developed a dry goods store on State Street known today as Goodyear Plaza. In 1840 John Stephenson purchased land adjacent to Beltline Boulevard for $800; Stephenson built a home there which still stands today as one of downtown Belmont's most prominent landmarks. The first post office located in what is now Belmont was established on December 1, 1840 when James Hirst opened up his store at 5th & Market Streets under the name "Hurst's Post Office". William Wirt founded Wirt's grocery store at 8th & Meridian Streets on October 25th of that year which would later become City Hall building #1A . On December 4th 1850 John Stephenson offered 5 lots for sale on Center Street between Second and Third Streets for $2 per lot . The townspeople voted unanimously to incorporate as a village bylaws were adopted giving them authority over all aspects such as elections, fire protection, streetlights etc… This would be their first major step forward since they lacked any governing body apart from themselves until 1860 when they formed their own town board! On January 15th 1861 Samuel Morse visited town hall where he donated 3000 acres (12 km²) of land east of present day Civic Center Blvd., becoming one of very few Americans ever to provideSuch largesse during those days! On April 10th 1861 Doniphan Ransom organized a wagonload of men led by Capt Richard Jourdain southward down US 95 towards sections Foothill Rd/Rancho Cucamonga about 12 miles away following news reports about Southern Californianlos war effort being waged against Mexico! At 9pm local time that night Mexican forces attacked this wagon train killing all but Capt Jourdain who managed to hide among some trees until morning before being recaptured just outside Of La Mesa

Belmont is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of the San Joaquin Valley and is north of Stockton. Belmont's history goes back to 1853 when it became part of Alameda County. In 1906, it became a part of Fresno County and again in 1919, when it was given to Kern County as part of the deal that created Kingsley Field State Park. Belmont is named after Commodore John A. Belmont who served as Commandant of Marines at Panama City Naval Station from 1862-1864 and as Rear Admiral in charge of Marine forces in Mexico during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). He also served as Mayor of San Francisco from 1868-1870 and Vice Presidential elector on November 3rd, 1872 for US president Zachary Taylor. The community started off as just a few scattered adobe buildings with about 20 people living there. By 1916, Belmont had over 100 residents and began working on developing its downtown area which included a library and several businesses including an insurance company, groceries store, bank and post office. One reason Belmont thrived during this time was because there were no other major settlements near by with similar amenities or infrastructure such as schools or hospitals so residents could easily get around without having to go out into the countryside where most villages then stood. In 1957, voters approved Measure M which provided for an increase in taxes associated with development within the town limits – turning Belmont into one of California’s first “gated communities” – but despite this positive development many families still did not move into their homes until after prices had increased significantly outside those boundaries making it difficult for them to maintain property values inside their own neighborhoods while they waited for developments surrounding them to become more affordable before moving in themselves. Today Belmountians enjoy access both inside and outside theirown community thanks largely to hybrid zoning allowing multiple types housing including single family homesites set back from street level onto large yards mowing services etc., thus maintaining close ties between homeowners & renters alike while still providing quality suburban lifestyle amenities unavailable anywhere else.
Belmont was founded in 1872 by John Belmont and his brother, Lorenzo. The area now known as Belmont was part of the Rancho Cucamonga Mexican land grant given to John Belmont by Governor Manuel Micheltorena. In 1875, the brothers organized a company to purchase four thousand acres of land east of Los Angeles for $2,500. They named their new company "The Santa Anita Club" in honor of thoroughbred racinghorse Santa Anita. The first race ever run at Belmont was a horse race between two American horses named Big Brown and Little Brown on October 30, 1875. On December 10, 1875, the brothers donated the track to the City of Los Angeles for use as an open-air park.
