During World War II, most residents evacuated during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor but few left behind their homes which were destroyed during bombings four days later. Most residents returned after Japan surrendering unconditionally on September 2nd 1945. After World War II ended most people settled down into their everyday lives until economic conditions changed in the early 1970s when oil production peaked andemplaced more joblessness among local farmers leading to a decrease in population growth rates throughout much of central valley CA (See also: "The Great Recession" ).
