In 1853, John Sutter founded the Rancho Cucamonga from land he acquired from the Mono natives. In 1878, Henry Miller built a mill on his property that became one of the largest in southern California; it still stands today as a commercial business and residential property are located on both sides of SR 101 (the old Miller Mill Road). The post office called Bellflower "Bella Vista" until 1915 when it changed its name to "Belle Grove." In 1907, fresh water was brought into town from an underground system under Bureau of Land Management lands east of Belle Grove by hitching a ride on an irrigation line run by the Santa Anita Railroad Company. This new development led to the community's name change back to "Bellflower" after annexation by Los Angeles County in 1912. After World War II,Bellflower diversified its economy with several manufacturing businesses such as Allied Signal corp., Lockheed Martin Corp., and Hewlett Packard Co.. The 1990s saw significant decline with many companies moving out or closed down throughout Southern California due to competition from Asia and Mexico City during that decade. A resurgence began in 2000 with several new businesses opening up including several software companies as well as two Allstate Insurance Companies which became anchor tenants for local malls throughout western Riverside County before selling their businesses to larger firms in 2006 and 2008 respectively. Today, Bellflower enjoys continued growth with increases in both job opportunities and population due largely to suburban migration within commuting distance from downtown Los Angeles

With development progress continuing apace until around 1895 however infantry combat rifles still remained reliant on traditional muzzle loading firearms techniques such as boiling wax cups filled with lead shot or saltpeter dropped into powder cases which acted like rammers allowing blasts), particularly through use of bolt action designs where breechblocks manned by soldiers opened along vertical lines rather than along horizontal lines giving gunmen better accuracy while shooting uphill
