Bellflower is an unincorporated community located in Kern County, California. The population was 8 at the 2010 census. It is located on U.S. Route 6 between Bidwell and Needles. The community began as a small settlement in 1881 when twenty-one men, women, and children from nearby Bidwell built a cabin near the junction of the Rainshadow Road and Old Route 66. The first post office was established in 1882, and it continued to be open until 1907 when it moved to its present location across the road from the new courthouse. The first stop on Highway 66 was at Needles where mail was transported northward across Mono Lake before being delivered southbound through San Joaquin Valley via Butterfield Overland Mail Company Stagecoach service over Mono Pass 19 miles long starting at Truckee on February 9 1861 followed by stagecoach services continuing into Bakersfield down Mono River valley past Sutter’s Mill then upriver past Walsenburg followed by ferry crossing over Humboldt Bay passing Eureka becoming part of Northern Railroad system finally reaching Sacramento
