In 1892, Bellflower’s first law enforcement officer, John Blythe, purchased a revolver from George Wooten at an auction held at the Masonic Temple. In 1907, Bellflower’s first post office was established on Main Street (later renamed State Avenue). In 1912, Josephine Kapp founded her own business called “The Bellefontaine Press” on Main Street which published local newspapers such as The Bellflower Democrat. However, it regained some of its previous prosperity during the late 1960s and 1970s through suburban development and a rise in Taxes for local government services such as education and policing.
