It is situated on State Route 12 and has a post office with ZIP code 94522. The first settler in what is now Bellflower was George Hearn, who arrived in 1847 from Maine. A year later, he married Mary Jane White and had two children: John Hearn and Emma White. In 1851, George Hearn moved his family to San Leandro and started a grocery store there. He also sold newspapers. In 1892, C S Lewis founded Lewis Printing Press in Bellflower; it became the largest printing press in Northern California at that time. Lewis print products such as cookbooks and calendars until 1958 when it merged with Gannett Company of Rochester NY to form Gannett/WBOC-TV (NBC). In 1960, Lewises son Leland bought out his father's share of Gannett/WBOC-TV which made him the sole owner of Gannet TV stations nationwide including WBOC-TV in Boston MA (now WHDH) and CW affiliate WJLA-TV (ABC) in Washington D C . From 1968 to 1991 he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for both networks before retiring due to age restrictions
Bellflower is a small town in California, located on the east side of San Bernardino County. The population was 3,484 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community's name is derived from Bellflower Avenue in downtown Riverside. In 1892, the area around Bellflower and east of it were designated as San Bernardino County's "Foothills." In 1907, the county created what are now eastern Riverside and western San Bernardino counties by splitting off parts of Orange County. Bellflower was one of those areas incorporated into Riverside on December 15, 1907. In 1960, when Los Angeles and Orange Counties were merged to form LA MSA, Bellflower became a part of that new MSA. In 1992, when San Bernardino County became an independent county again after years of statehood struggling through Measure R (the failed initiative to split off portions of neighboring counties), Bellflower annexed much of eastern Riverside from both Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and Bearsville Village Incorporated (AVI). That annexation made bell flower its newest municipality with a population over 4,000 residents
