The belltower built in 1906 remains extant as a government building and is currently used as a social club for schoolchildren and their parents during summer months. In 1919, an experimental new type of light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison which we now know as an incandescent bulb; this led to a large increase in Bellflower's sales activity due to their ability to provide better lighting than any other company at that time. In 1951–1957, over 1 million people worked at the Bellflower Cotton Gin making it one of Kern County’s leading employers during those years; however, production ceased due to technological advances shortly before World War II ended without causing any economic damage or loss to either party involved.
