From 1897 until 1955, all elections were held at City Hall which is now part of the San Francisco State University campus. In 1924, Citizens’ Committee for Civic Improvement voted to rename Mission Boulevard after American author Gertrude Stein because she had spoken highly about bellflowers at a hearing at City Hall two years earlier! In 1962, when Main Street became Bellflower Boulevard there were protests against this change because some people felt that it would make it more difficult for local businesses to survive without access to main street business lanes

However, things changed quickly after Captain John Sutter settled here in 1847 for two reasons: 1) he saw potential for agriculture here due to the ample rainfall that fall within Doña Ana County; 2) he believed that this area would become an important center for trade because of its strategic location on Route 66 corridor connecting Northern California with Southern Arizona Bellflower soon became one of the most important settlements on Route 66 due to its importance as a commercial center between these regions Captain John Sutter also played an important role early on inBellflower's history by establishing what is now known as Sutter Park which today includes several museums including The China Museum In 1870s most people who lived around here started moving away because of new technology brought over from East Asia called Railroads which made life much easier for folks back then

In 1868, the town's first post office was opened. By 1872, Bellflower had a population of around 175 people. The railroad arrived in Bellflower in 1870 and made it possible for businesses to grow quickly and provide jobs for locals. The arrival of the railroad also brought new residents who were drawn to the growing town because of its accessibility to jobs and resources. In 1905, Bellflower incorporated as a city. In 1916, World War I began and many citizens served in the military; this created an influx of new people into Bellflower who helped make the city more diverse. During World War II, many citizens volunteered their time or money for the war effort; this also created an increase in population growth which contributed to infrastructure needs such as schools and hospitals. After World War II ended, several changes took place in Bellflower including growing suburbanization which increased traffic congestion on Route 1A; however, this did not impact much else within the city limits due to limited zoning authority at that time.
