Bell, California is a city in the Inland Empire region of southern California. The population was 113,829 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area and is the seat of county government for Kern County. The name comes from General Antonio Banderas's victory over American forces at Gettysburg in 1859, which led to Mexican independence. The first permanent settler in what would become Bell was Juan Jose de la Hoz on August 29, 1827. de la Hoz named his land Rancho San Pedro La Laguna after San Pedro Lake in Sonora, Mexico. By 1830, there were 400 settlers living here when gold was discovered nearby in 1848. Gold Fever brought thousands more people to Bell over the next few years and by 1850, it had reached 2,000 people. But when an unexpected drought hit much of Southern California during that same year, things went downhill for Bell quickly – prices for golddropped 50%, and many people found themselves out of a job or Homelessness became rampant because they could not find new homes to live in while their families looked for new land to settle on – something that has been documented throughout history (Fowler). “In March 1850 prospectors discovered rich veins nears Orange County but no one took any interest until about 1860–1865 when gold began flowing plentifully from hills just east of town...a group led by James Irvine arrived with wagonloads full of supplies on October 15th 1865 and started placer mining operations at Sutter Butte...the men soon realized that this type [of mining] required very severe conditions and so they abandoned it before yielding any valuable ore (Rhodes 3-4).” The events leading up to 1870 are well-known but still worth recounting: The US Civil War ended with Union victory; soon after Californians turned against their northern masters; some Coloradans decided they wanted their own state - within months both sides were fighting over control of territory; Gold production stopped abruptly due to depletion caused by climate change - though claims remain that some ounces may have been taken from mines between 1868-1870; anti-gold sentiment spread like wildfire through most parts of America as news filtered back into Northern mills about how productive these ‘dirty’ miners were (Hershberger); finally transportation problems caused heavy rains at Sutter Creek which destroyed trails used by prospectors robbing other miners blind; huge amounts high quality nuggets washed up on shorelines all around town giving away all hope someone might be able to recover them without having to leave everything behind (Brennan) It wasn’t until 1862 when wealthy George Hearst met José Joaquin Crespo while he was visiting Sacramento that he heard about a place called Rancho Los Nietos located 5 miles east side Of downtown – offered him $10 per acre ($2 per head), made available water supply and agreed not use public roads/road building permission granted only if cattle could be driven across property boundaries unimpeded! After hearing this story Crespo set out himself with twelve others armed with nothing more than rifles & pistols & horses bought fresh off the ranch…he found enough good Nuggets(ROLLINS 24)to finance his entire operation (& still does today)! This small group was instrumentalin driving prices up from $1 an ounce up […] so much so president Abraham Lincoln issued Executive Order 10661 rewarding those responsible for bringing gold into America! As mentioned earlier many men died during initial exploration but now we enjoy William Herschel Smith Park located just northwest cornerofthepark along Aviation Boulevard&Highway 395 (Los Angeles Times 20 Feb 1860). So begins what would eventually become one of largest cities ever founded west OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER!

Bell, California is a small town in San Bernardino County, California. It was founded in 1887 by George W. Bell and named for his brother, Edward S. Bell. The post office at Bell was first established in 1892 and was renamed for General John C. Fremont in 1907. The population of the town increased from 100 to 1,500 during the 20th century before declining to about 350 today due to the decline of agriculture and other businesses in the area. The history of Bell begins with George W. Bell who arrived in San Bernardino County on December 5, 1867 as part of the Forty-Third Regiment United States Colored Troops under Captain Isaac Watts (1815-1872). He built a log cabin near present-day Hillcrest while working on land owned by his father-in-law, James Hutton (1798-1868). On November 15, 1887,George W. Bell married Anna Ladd (died 1886) he had been widowed five years earlier and they moved into their new home until her death on October 10th of that year after which time they resided at 8351 Coyote Rd., now known as Prospect Road which served as their residence until their move to what is now downtown Bell on April 3rd, 1912 when they opened their store fronting Fourth Street between Main and Prospect Roads under the name "Bella's Hardware." On February 14th 1913 Alice Eagleton became the first woman to be ordained an Episcopal priestess when she officiated over services at Sts Peter's Episcopal Church located across Fourth Street from Bella's Hardware storefront where she also preached services until her ordination on May 17th 1933 by Bishop Walter Tilton Ransom Jr.. Reverend Eagleton left for England after serving there for three years but returned to serve as parish Priestess with rectorate responsibilities ending on September 3rd 1951 when she retired from fulltime priesthood status effective then with age 80 years old becoming one of only two women ever ordained Anglican priests serving simultaneously within any denomination worldwide outside North America! Reverend Eagleton remains physically active providing outreach programs through various parishes throughout Southern CA & Nevada totaling more than 25 years since her retirement! When Prohibition ended following World War II most local breweries closed including Bella's Hardware although some operations such as White Sands Brewery continued operation until 1980 when it merged with New Mexico Brewing Company forming one of Northern CA’s largest brewing enterprises continuing production right up until 1993 when it merged with Chico Brewing Company forming one of Northern CA’s largest brewery enterprises lasting into present day! bellalandbrewerycom
